Inconsistent Subheadings

[edit]

What I'm talking about is there is "Day One", "Day 2", "Day Three" and "Season 4". They need to be fixed so that there all consistent. They need to all be in "days" or "seasons" and the number should be the digit or the written out. But we should discuss if we should put in seasons or days. --AlexForche 03:16, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Charles Logan not in the villains category in the character box

[edit]

I think he's a pretty important villain, he should be there especially since Christopher Henderson and Graham are there. James Nathanson should aslo be included. All these characters were involved in the same plot.

    • While he's a villain, he's originally & primarily known as a politician. In his own article it shows how he's both the "Main Villain of Day 5" as well as "President of the United States".

Error

[edit]

By the way, the sentence that is staring me in the face as I type, Wikipedia does not yet have a page called Jack Bauer, is sheer nonsense. It might read does not yet have a talk page on Jack Bauer or something along these lines. <KF> 19:39, 12 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Palmer/Bauer relationship

[edit]
Jack's relationship with Senator / President Palmer is more complicated than is shown, at least from Palmer's perspective. During Day 1, Palmer, when finding out about Jack's involvement, was quite hostile to him during their first meeting. He believed Jack really was out to kill him due to the loss of his men during Operation: Nightfall. Jack told him that he blamed himself for the loss of the men. Eventually, Palmer came to believe Jack, and came to realize that Jack didn't want Palmer dead.

What they gained was some mutual respect. Jack respected Palmer as a senator and presidential candidate, as well as a President who had ethics. Palmer, for his part, realized Jack was a professional doing job that was sometimes dirty, and as a result of Day 1 regarded his instincts as strong. When Day 2 came, it was Palmer who got Jack to at least listen to the pleas for his help, and at least contact CTU.

During season 2 Jack had a death wish, but along with it, he didn't want to throw his life away needlessly. Estranged from his daughter and with a dead wife, Jack didn't care to live anymore. It did elevate him to the ruthlessness need to murder somebody to gain a quick cover, but he twice was willing to trade his life to hel p the country. He told Palmer to warrent his murder at the hands of Nina Myers when it was her price for co-operation, and then was going to die crashing the plane carrying the nuke himself.

I think an assessment of Jack is that he will do what it takes to get the desired result. He's killed a lot of people (but, referencing Arnold in True Lies, they were all bad). He's probably an ISTJ on myer-briggs.

spoiler

[edit]

I don't think a full synopsis of the whole second season should be given, seeing how the first season got not much more than a paragraph mention. it'd take too long, and would spoil the ending for those who plan on renting, buying, or otherwise viewing the second season on DVD

Please, edit the article with spoiler warnings!!! i just read a crucial part of the 5th season i haven't seen yet. Damn...

Director -> Special Agent in Charge

[edit]

look at Jack's profile at the official 24 website(http://www.fox.com/24/profiles/), it states: "Former Special Agent in Charge", not Director of CTU. This includes George Mason, Tony Almeida and the others who held the position.

Special Agent in Charge and Director are two interchangeable titles in this case.

Then both should be mentioned, as Special Agent in Charge is the formal job title.

In 24: The Official Companion, Seasons 1 & 2, it even states in black and white that Jack was the Special Agent in Charge during Season 1. Cubs Fan 17:55, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jack's background

[edit]

I'm putting the information "While there, he was the Team Leader for Operation Proteus and the Section Captain for the Hotel Los Angeles attack" back into the article. It should be in there because it's a part of his official profile. And we already have other info from that profile in the article, so this is no reason not to include it. -- OldRightist 16:54, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Audrey Raines's marital status

[edit]

In the summary of Season 4, Paul Raines is identified as Audrey's ex-husband; I believe "estranged husband" is more accurate (they were still debating divorce/reconcilliation).

Wording

[edit]

I have to confess to being shocked by the wording of the article. Sentences like

"Jack then eliminates him in retribution for slaying Palmer."

Why not "Jack then slays him in retribution for eliminating Palmer." ? Cld we not make it "Jack then executes him in vengeance for killing Palmer", or something less evidently favourable to this Bauer person ? Rama 19:45, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

China still after Jack?

[edit]

has anyone else noticed that the Chinese have mysteriously forgotten about Jack? At the end of the fourth season Jack had to fake his death to stay away from the Chinese and now, even with the revelation that he is still alive, China seems not to care about him. You would think that China would ask for Jack and would get mad at the U.S. for hiding him. Should it be noted as odd that this hasn't happened yet?

P.S. I have taken into account that not many people are aware of Jack being alive yet. --JoeBlowfromKokomo 23:15, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jack's status is not public knowledge. This would have to be true, as he told President Logan that after the crisis was averted, he would disappear again. If his status were public knowledge, this would be useless. Jaguar84 04:57, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Confuse Box

[edit]

I believe that put the jobs held by Jack Bauer with the respective season when they were held made the infobox too much confuse, with too many information. Is better made the infobox less especific, more general, just with the jobs held (and without the season). --Rockdolly 13 April 2006 21:41

A Concern

[edit]

I think that Jack's Return is turning more into a summary of season 5, instead of a summary of Jack Bauer, like the other sections are. Like the Day 5 article cover the events of Day 5, and let Jack's Return cover the emotional and psychological impact Jack being alive has on everybody else. Just a thought. Tim 20:26, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

YES!

[edit]
Exactly. The summary of Day 5 is no doubt adding a lot of data to the 32kb warning. The section should be merged into the Day 5 article, and I will add a template proposing that. 70.243.142.175 22:03, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It's definately overkill on the details. Now that the season's over completely, we can shorten the description and leave out the times given.

Jobs Held?

[edit]

I find the "Jobs Held" entry of character infobox quesionable. Jack Bauer, Christopher Henderson, James Heller, and Nina Myers all have detailed pre-series history (though in some cases only availble on the official site bios, not mentioned on the show) but for characters like Kate Warner, Keith Palmer, and Vladimir Bierko, this entry seems kind of pointless and redundant.

Jack Is Dead Photo

[edit]

The photo of Chloe and Edgar that Buchanan gave to Chloe at the end of Season 5 has "Jack is Dead" written on it backwards. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v695/abcampa/jackisdead.jpg

I have a somewhat better pic here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v44/quicksilver1703/jackisdead.jpg Jondy 03:34, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that says: Is Jack Dead? It also has the phrase: fan phone above it. Joelon 8:43 P.M May 29 2006

I think it's just because Jack has been 'dead' for 18 months before Day 5. Buchanan or Edgar, depending on who owned the photo before Bill gave it to Chloe, could have wrote "Jack is dead" for whatever reason on the closest thing, which just happened to be that photo. Wrong Backgroud

[edit]

My objection is that, if I didn't miss anything in seasons 1 and 2, the career path described in the wage is erroneous. The stuff on the page is most likely wrong because one can only enters Delta by being a senior NCO in the army. If the wiki writer's claim is true, then Jack Bauer would need to get a univ. education, train for LAPD SWAT, volunteers an army career and STARTS FROM BUCK PRIVATE before becoming a Delta member. This is implausible because the physical and mental demands of being in a boot camp with 18-19 year olds, the army's low pay grade for a buck private, and being selected for Delta as a man pass his thirties (very old by army standards)! More likely is that Jack Bauer enters the military, becomes selected for Delta, retired, gets his education, THEN becomes involved with CIA, LAPD and CTU. This is also a more typical career path for former military personel.

no its not, thats a stupid statement there is no set career plan for joining the army a large number of people join the army after they have completed there education.

Completing a university education would require him to be about his early twenties once he volunteers for the military; then, getting into LAPD SWAT would require a few more years. This means that he would be in his mid-to-late twenties by the time he volunteers for the military, starts off at private, and then works his way into Delta Force by his mid-thirties. Rather implausible, even for Jack Bauer. Peptuck 15:29, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How is this implausable???? im no expert on the army, but lets say jack joined the army after university at age 22 he spends maximum 4-5 years as a solidier then joins delta at age 27 he spends again maximum 4 years in delta he's out at age 31 joins the police, 2 years then gets option to join SWAT, gains entry, 4 years in SWAT, out at the age of 35 then from there on to the CIA then CTU, dont forget jacks character is meant to be in his early 40s he's no spring chicken.

This page needs cleanup

[edit]

The Jack Bauer page here on Wikipedia is turning into a summary of the entire 24 franchise instead of a summary of Jack Bauer. This article needs major cleanup. It is WAY too long. I cut it down majorly once before, but someone has added everything back again. If you ask me, we need to take out all of the sections on this page pertaining to days 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and the game. All they are are summaries of 24 which can easily be found on other pages of this site. Does anyone else agree with me?

Agree completely. There are episode summaries and links to the 24 wikicities. 24 wikicities is the place for absolute details, not a general interest encyclopedia like Wikipedia. — Deckiller 04:45, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How about this, just leave it for now. The whole thing doesn't need to be sourced. Soemtimes you have to take a few gambles. All of this info, however, is relevant to Jack Bauer. As long as they reference what they're telling us, or provide exampels, than it's fine. is that fair?

Missing: Bauers darker sides

[edit]

The description of the personality and psychology of Jack Bauer is too one-sided. Bauer does not always do what’s right even though many of his extreme actions that in retrospect proved to be right gives that impression. What I miss is an analysis of his cold-blooded killings of Nina Bauer in season 3 and of Christopher Henderson in the end of season 5. These killings were pure personal revenge and had no rational logic to them. (I also guess that the sailor who witnessed the season 5 killing will be used in season 6 for some purpose.) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by MaxPont (talkcontribs) 11:16, 12 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

-- I completely disagree with this statement. Christopher Henderson and Nina Myers both deserved their deaths. They took many, innocent lives just for the cost of covering up their corruption/involvement and other selfish reasons. Jack was justified in doing what he did, because justice would have never been served under the U.S. judicial court system.

-- I think you mean Nina Myers.

Status as a Villain

[edit]

I heard through many sources that Jack Bauer is indeed the main villain of 24. The real heroes of the show are the freedom fighters, who constantly are at war with the evil power hungry CTU. They attack CTU offices and kill agents with no remorse who have killed numerous innocent lives. I think the "villians" and the "heroes" should be switched. OfficerPhil 02:50, 14 March 2007 (UTC) I wouldnt call a terrorist who drops a nuclear weapon on a city, a freedom fighter. Its called genocide. LordHarris 00:42, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jack's Gun

[edit]

Does anyone know what gun Jack carries? C0N6R355 17:49, 20 March 2007 (UTC) Never mind: the answer is: during days 1 & 2 it was a SIG P228. During days 3,4,5 & 6 it was a Heckler & Koch USP Compact. C0N6R355 17:48, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The current article claims it to be a 9mm H&K; does anyone know where this is mentioned in the show? --dinomite 02:21, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Check out this photograph. C0N6R355 23:31, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Due to internet rumors and misinformation in one of the novels, Jack’s Heckler & Koch is often described as a USP or USP Compact. In seasons 3, 4, and 5 it is abundantly clear that it is not USP and certainly not a compact. The gun is a full sized HK XP which features a curved top slide and 45 degree angle hammer. The USP slide has a hexagonal slide and the rear slide is only slightly angled.

As shown in the close up poster, it is a 9mm.

The compact theory is down right silly since the gun is full sized. A compact model by definition is smaller so it can be more easily concealed.

In season 6 Jack does not arrive armed. He obtains what looks like a USP from one of the terrorists, and uses it throughout the season. (CWC)

Weapons & Equipment

[edit]

I added a weapons section. In case anyone was wondering, the IP address that added to it the first was also me, I forgot to sign in. C0N6R355 13:08, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll say right off the bat that I think including a list of weapons is a bit dubious, but there are some things that obviously don't belong. I just reverted an edit that mentioned Bauer using his teeth as a weapon - what's next? Will we list fists, feet, and elbows too? PaladinWhite 12:32, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'd agree with you about the teeth (I didn't add that, I meant the first IP address). However, I chose to add the weapons for a couple of reasons. The main is that it shows the depth of Jack Bauer's skills. It illustrates that he can use revolvers, automatics, sub and fully automatic machine guns, sniper rifles, and knives. An equipment used section also shows Jack's creativity and the resources that he has to support him. However, since the title of this sections is "Weapons and Equipent", I have two requests. First is that I would like people to really think if what they're adding is a weapon or a piece of equipment. For example, I thought about adding CQC, but refrained as it is not a weaon per se, but rather a learned version of martial arts. This would go under a section entitled "Training". My second (and last) point is that I'd like to ask people to go back to the showand look for any equipment Jack carries (thermal sensor, night vision, anything) and add it. I think I've typed enough now! C0N6R355 23:28, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The “Weapons and Equipment” section is too convoluted. It mentions almost every gun used by CTU, a lot. It should specify which gun Jack used in which season.

The other firearms should be mentioned under individual character bios. Kim’s weapons were never shown up close. She used a sidearm taken from a dead guard to point at Nina Myers in season 3 and Jack gave her a gun he chose when she went under cover. It was nickel and looked like a Sig, Ruger or S&W.

The only time I recall Michele using a gun was in season 3 when she was trapped in the hotel, she clearly uses a Glock but the model is unknown.

Tony brandished a nickel Beretta season 3. In season 4 his gun is nickel and appears to be an Israeli model.

Curtis Manning always used a Glock. In season 6 when he holds it to Al-Assad it is distinctively darker than older Glocks made before 1997. (CWC)

Jack’s Sidearm

[edit]

It has been about 6 months since I last argued the point that Jack uses a Sig P226 NOT a P228 in seasons 1 and 2. An edit war began in which I bowed out. However I have new evidence for my theory. The best look at this gun is in season 1 7:00am-8:00am when Jack points it at the Palmer assassin’s head. Note the slide release and hammer drop are nickel and stand in stark contrast to the black handle. The P228 two-tone has a black slide release and hammer drop. This distinction is NOT shown on many websites including Wikipedia. Having observed the two side by side in a gun shop the distinction is more apparent.

My original theory was based on the episode in season 2 when Jack and Nina Myers are fighting off the Coral Snake unit. Jack distinctively fires his pistol 15 times before reloading. ONLY a Sig P226 9mm can hold 15 rounds. Any other caliber or Sig model can only hold a maximum of 13.

Aunt Carol

[edit]

The Bauer family tree shows Carol as Terri’s sister not Jack’s. I thought in season 2 either Tony or Michele remarked to Jack they were going to get Kim to “your sister’s” or “we called your sister”. I cannot recall the exact episode.

Although Aunt Carol is mentioned hundreds of times in season 2 she never appears except in a deleted scene when Kim calls her before entering the connivance store which is robbed. This scene was edited out due to Elisha Cuthbert letting her Canadian accent slip by saying, “I have a friend in hospital.” not “the hospital.”

What is the basis for Carol being Terri’s sister? (CWC)

- I imagine that it's because she didn't get involved at all during the Bauer Family Crisis of Season 6. When I first heard Aunt Carol, I assumed it was Teri's sister. I'll check my season 2 later to see if there's any clarification on that. Kirobaito

--Don't you mean the family crisis of season 1, not 6? -wj

--- No, season 6. Season 6 involved Jack fighting his dad and his brother. If there was another sibling there, I think he or she would have come up somewhere. At least, I'd hope. If she's not Jack's sister, that pretty much only leaves one possibility... Kirobaito 04:45, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article needs changing to reflect major character changes

[edit]

As per the talk page of Josh Bauer, someone needs to edit through the 24 character pages, and change all references to Graem Bauer being the father of Josh Bauer. He's actually Jack Bauer's brother, as stated in the offical 24 magazine.

Q: A lot of fans speculated that Jack was the real father of Josh Bauer, so were you surprised when you read that Josh was actually Phillip's son?

A: Oh my God, I walked around the set going, "I had sex with James Cromwell? What?!" They were like, "Yeah, you did!" and I'm like, "I slept with every single Bauer - that is so disgusting!" (Laughs). But I didn't...I didn't have sex with Phillip Bauer. What happened was that Graem and I couldn't have a child, so they went to a sperm bank and Phillip implants his sperm, which makes sense as to why he is so incredibly insane about his legacy.

Jack's Age

[edit]

Is there any official source for what year Season 6 took place in? Some say 2011, some say 2012, some say 2013. There were reports that the phones on the CTU set all had 2012 dates but again nothing concrete. In the light of no apparent confirmation, I think perhaps Jack's age should be omitted, since its not entirely clear what age he is as of Season 6 (even though we now have his DOB). --Dreamer84 23:36, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Season 6 took place in 2013! --Chris Bulgin

Says who? Most places I've seen are saying 2011. And even then there's nothing official. All we know is that Season 6 takes place just over 9 years from Season 1. Assuming the 24 followed the real world and had the California Presidential Primaries in 2000, 2002 and 2004, that means that 24's sixth season either took place in 2009, 2011 or 2013. But we don't know which! --Dreamer84 21:04, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deus Ex Reference? Where?

[edit]

While I'm not a fan of 24, I *am* a big fan of Deus Ex. This article says that there is a reference to Jack Bauer in Deus Ex, but I have no recollection of this, at least not in the original release of Deus Ex. At the very least, Deus Ex was released in 2000, and the first showing of 24 was in 2001, so it would make it difficult to reference a character that did not yet exist in fiction. Maybe they mean the sequel, Invisible War? Can someone confirm or deny this reference? ApokalypseCow 14:25, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since Deus Ex came out before 24, and there aren't any references that can corroborate this information, I'm removing this line. Anthonypants 01:20, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Works for...

[edit]

"worked in various capacities as a government agent, including US Army Delta Force, LAPD SWAT," I'm not a watcher of 24, but hasn't he worked for CTU throughout the entire series? Though he may have done other stuff between the end of one season and the beginning of the next, in each season hasn't he been 'working for' (either officially or unofficially) CTU? 199.71.183.2 (talk) 17:04, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jack's bio

[edit]

I made some changes and there are more that should probably happen:

1) Bio said after receiving his Bachelors and Masters he joined the Army. Nothing in the bio from Fox (the only source listed) indicates that he got both degrees, then went to the Army. Where i the source for this?

2) It says he enlisted and became a Special Forces Officer. It is much more common to join as an officer if you have a degree than to enlist, then try to become an officer later. Where is the source for this?

3) Nothing in the Fox bio says he was an officer or in Special Forces Branch. He was in Detla, which falls under Special Operations Command, but draws members from all branches in the Army. It also says he was "offered". People aren't offered Delta, the selection process is highly competitive. Where is a source saying he was SF first.

4) The bio lists several military decorations. Do we have a source we can use?

5) The Fox bio doesn't show him working for the CIA. Is there a source we can use on that?

I love the show. I am just trying to get this straight before some 24 hating wikinazi shows up and starts putting fact|date tags on everything. Niteshift36 (talk) 05:47, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can answer 5 - he actually stated in season 1 that he was in the CIA doing fieldwork and ALL of the other answers can be found in his dossier in the book "The House Special Subcommittee's Findings at CTU". 193.63.197.247 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 07:39, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Improving to GA status

[edit]

This article, while a very good start, has several major flaws that, at this time will prevent it from being declared a good article. The first and foremost is the widespread lack of references throughout the entire article this problem is rampant. For those interested in improving the article this would be an excellent place to start.

The prose could be improved overall, but is definitely a good start. I'd focus on the Characteristics section first, and from there tweak the rest.

In the appearances section, some portions could be beefed up to more or less match the others, and some of the longer ones could be trimmed down so as not to go into comparatively too much detail. Perhaps look at increasing the information contained in the non-plot summary sections to maintain the overall balance.

On the positive, the article does have a fairly broad scope, is more or less neutral and stable, and is decently imaged, although it could possibly use one or two more.

I have rated this article B class on the assessment scale. --Liempt (talk) 05:35, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The card Jack is called Boer in Dutch which is Bauer in German, —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.135.244.223 (talk) 23:12, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The "bowers", the two jacks of the same colour as the trump suit, are also the high cards in Euchre. While I don't believe there's any actual confirmation that these facts inspired the character's name, I think it might be worth mentioning as an aside. I want to see what you guys think before making the addition. Sikyanakotik (talk) 03:29, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
