Change "Pritzker is a supporter of abortion" to
"Pritzker is a supporter of a woman's right to choose to seek . . . " or something like that. I don't think anyone really "supports abortion" per se. Narumdr (talk) 23:51, 6 November 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Just for the record, I think that the location of his (anyone's) bar mitzvah is too personal, so deleted it; I then mistakenly wrote that I did so as seeking a more NPOV (after having forgotten to note it at all, being actually the previous edit's deletion. Requested move 7 January 2019
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: no consensus to move the page to the proposed title at this time, per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 23:21, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
J. B. Pritzker → JB Pritzker – "J.B." are not the subject's initials, therefore it is not technically correct to list him as such. His name is stylized as "JB" Pritzker. I propose that we move "J.B. Pritzker" to "JB Pritzker" and leave a redirect at "J.B.". StrikerforceTalk 20:59, 7 January 2019 (UTC) --Relisting. SITH (talk) 21:50, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- Here are sources that point to the lack of periods between the letters J and B in his name. His Twitter account and his campaign website. A majority of news outlets incorrectly use "J.B.", unfortunately, which is something that his team has so far chosen not to correct. However, since we are an encyclopedia, we should use what is in use by his verified web presence. StrikerforceTalk 21:03, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support, per nom, and subject's correct name. Randy Kryn (talk) 00:25, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose It appears to still be initials, possibly for Jay Bob rather than Jay Robert. Stylization on his campaign site is not indicative of it being his "correct name" rather than a style choice because a logo might not look as nice with periods. His profile on his own company's website and his family charity use "J.B.", as do virtually all Google News results so per WP:COMMONNAME I'd like actual sources that they are "incorrect" rather just differing in style. Reywas92Talk 01:15, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support - convincing evidence that the way the subject presents their name is without the periods. -- Netoholic @ 04:44, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose – MOS:SPACEINITS / MOS:TM – the subject sometimes uses the dots himself, and the suggested styling is not the ordinary form in English. —BarrelProof (talk) 11:04, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per the subject’s own use and use in reliable sources. Calidum 19:06, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose There is evidence of both presentations of the initials, but the more normal way in which a reader would seek the initials is with the periods, IMO.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 05:03, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per reasons raised by Reywas92 and BarrelProof. J.B. comes from Jay Bob (the diminutive of his actual middle name Robert). They are his first and middle initial. The use of no initials on Twitter makes sense. Twitter has character limits.--Mpen320 (talk) 18:10, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
- Character limits wouldn't matter here. I'm referring to how his name is displayed on the account bio, as well as how it is displayed on his campaign website. It would also not surprise me to see his gubernatorial website display "JB" rather than "J.B.". StrikerforceTalk 14:35, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose simply because Wikipedia has guidelines to follow for this. 144.85.240.106 (talk) 22:54, 9 January 2019 (UTC).
- The "J.B." may be initials for "Joe Bob"; "Bob" is a common pet-form for "Robert". Anthony Appleyard (talk) 08:28, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support since Pritzker seems to stylize his own name as JB. As others have mentioned, it is likely short for "Jay Bob" [1] (making J.B. correct in some sense) but across Pritzker's campaign website and Twitter page, he uses "JB". (In fact, on JB's own website, he stylizes his wife's name as "M.K." with the periods, while writing his own as JB.) [2] Generally, I think we should spell an individual's name the way they would spell it themselves. Although standard practice on Wikipedia seems to be to change an initial-based first name to include periods whether or not the person in question spells it that way (JB Smoove, for example), that trend is sometimes broken (see PJ Harvey). Additionally, publications that use "J.B." may be using the periods only because their style guides require it. Flop453 (talk) 17:55, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support This is consistently how the individual has styled his name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.133.87.128 (talk) 18:40, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- It should be noted that his official page on the State of Illinois website has his first name stylized sans periods. StrikerforceTalk 18:51, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support Agree with those above who note that this is how he has consistently styled his name. Additionally, it is how the name is styled on his biographical page on the governor's official website. [3] Micbb (talk) 18:55, 14 January 2019 (UTC)micbb
- Does not explain links above from his company and foundation. His signature as seen in the second photo here does include periods, so "consistently" is false I think the case should be closed. Reywas92Talk 20:52, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
*Support The official State of Illinois website lists him as "JB" not "J.B.". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.133.87.128 (talk) 19:31, 14 January 2019 (UTC) Striking duplicate comment by same IP address. Reywas92Talk 20:52, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose As demonstrated by user:Reywas92 he himself inconsistently uses JB and J.B. It is thus logical to use the standard version with points. -- fdewaele, 14 January 2019, 23:13 CET.

Based on the photo of JB signing his name “J.B” earlier, I rescind my support. Flop453 (talk) 23:25, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- That doesn't address the elephant in the room. Why does someone named Jay Robert use the initials J B? Never mind he periods. I can't find anywhere that addresses that obvious question. Venqax (talk) 21:22, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- Because the answer is obvious, and does not need discussion. It stands for "Bob", which is a synonym for Robert. ~Anachronist (talk) 00:17, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
Birthplace
[edit]Can someone find a reliable source for Pritzker's birthplace? The article now claims with no proof that he was born in Atherton, which is in fact where he was raised. However, it previously said he was born in Santa Clara County, located several miles to the south. Atherton has no major hospitals, while Santa Clara County does. PerhapsXarb (talk) 08:34, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
- Pritzker was born at the Palo-Alto-Stanford Hospital Center in Palo Alto, California. The astrodatabank.com website is an astrology website that collects birth certificates and according to this website, his birth certificate says he was born in Palo Alto, California. - Isn't Atherton PART of Palo Alto? MaynardClark (talk) 00:38, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
- Atherton is not part of Palo Alto. Atherton is a separate town located in San Mateo County, California, and is adjacent to but not part of Palo Alto. Although they are close geographically and share some similarities in terms of demographics and lifestyle, they are separate municipalities with their own government, schools, and services.MaynardClark (talk) 00:46, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

Second wealthiest ever, after Mike Bloomberg?
[edit]Are we seriously making no mention of Donald Trump? I know there is some debate over how much money he had when he took office, $8 billion (what he claimed) or $3 billion (what skeptics have claimed), but surely he was plausibly wealthier than Pritzker when he took office. (Forbes estimates he was worth $3.5 to $4 billion.) And how about Nelson Rockefeller, a billionaire in 1960s dollars? I'm not sure in which year he first was a billionaire, but even if it was $1 billion even in 1973, that's $6 in today's money. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8806:1000:1E7:1162:D03F:48D8:B5A8 (talk) 15:22, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- It needs a citation, but Forbes estimates that Pritzker is worth more than Trump, yes. And the sentence says it's not taking inflation into account. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:36, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- It is deeply, deeply misleading to not take inflation into account when making wealth comparisons across decades; the claim should be removed. --JBL (talk) 15:55, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Andrew nyr accused me of edit-warring, but I suggest he look at the page's history first. Anyway, I thought I should initiate a discussion here, since another fellow by the name of TDKR Chicago 101 would also like to change the photo. I dislike it because it does not look serious. Wikipedia is neither a tabloid nor a satirical publication. Regardless of what editors think of the subject of this article, there ought to be a serious photo. I agree that the older one before TDKR made the change was not great, so I picked this one. Nerd271 (talk) 15:57, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
- Comment: The user was edit warring with user:TDKR Chicago 101 over which photo in the infobox. I requested the page be protected (which it was) and this user continued changing the photo. I left him an edit warring notice and requested that he obtain consensus on the talk page before continuing. This is not the first time the user has been accused of edit warring going as far to have investigations opened at WP:AN3 with 2 separate instances of blocks. COVID-19 Response
[edit]Over the past week, Illinois has been second in COVID-19 deaths, and has had the highest per capita death rate of any large state. Several times in the past month, a new record has been broken in deaths[1]. This has attracted considerable attention from the media[2], and the COVID-19 section should be updated to include this, as seems to have not been changed since early March.

[edit]
I echo the sentiment above that the current picture used across Wikipedia looks awful. This is an official portrait from 2019. It is a work of the United States Department of Defense and is therefore in the public domain. J. B. Pritzker → JB Pritzker – Largely similar to this discussion, it appears as though Pritzker stylizes his name without any periods. I can't judge if it meets MOS:BIOEXCEPT to the letter, but his official website and social medias do not use periods, so WP:ABOUTSELF could apply [1][2][3]. It also seems like his name is most commonly used without periods in reliable sources, see The New York Times [4], Chicago Tribune [5], and Politico [6], for example. Forbes [7] is the only current source I can find using periods for his name, though without a space. It does look like most sources prior to his gubernatorial run used periods, only beginning to drop them in the years since, so this could perhaps be treated as a name change. estar8806 (talk) ★ 19:56, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
