As this is my first article I would appreciate constructive comments. The article as it stands is incomplete and is perhaps too long. Certain sections still have to be added as well as photographs. I am seeking permission to use certain photographs of which I am already aware and will add those when I receive it.

Thanks to those of you who have pointed out my errors. I am working on improving things.!!Peter DC (talk) 11:11, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is a very good first article. The major thing that needs improving is adding citations (although this isn't the only aspect where the article could be improved). Plantdrew (talk) 16:10, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Further comments. The Alaska section is too long, and could be condensed quite a bit. It doesn't need to have a day-by-day itinerary of Hutchison's travels, and there's quite a bit of detail that isn't relevant to an article on Hutchison herself (e.g., Tom Gordon's physical appearance and family). Also (and this overlaps quite a bit with unneccessary details), keep an eye out for unencyclopedic language; exclamation points are a red-flag for a writing style that isn't really appropriate to an encylopedia. E.g. "The gossip got boring as it was recycled!!" is unnecessary detail, and unencyclopedic. Thanks again for creating the article, and let me know if you have any other questions. Rewrite

[edit]

Hi Peter Cowlishaw. I've just finished rewriting this article, in order to fix a few grammatical errors and make the general tone more encyclopaedic (e.g. removing personal opinions). I also removed some information and images which I thought weren't totally relevant. Feel free to put them back in if you disagree. Zacwill16 (talk) 07:35, 3 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The two crewmen on the boat the Trader, were Kári Pálsson and his brother Petur Pálsson, both of whom were born in Iceland. More information about them and the voyage can be found in Hutchison's book: North to the rime-ringed sun, an Alaska journey, - 1937 by Isobel Wylie Hutchison (Author) Kári was my grandfather.

hi Ted thanks for your information about Kari. Did he leave any letters with comments about his time with Isobel. Did he take any photos?? I would be grateful for any further information you may have. RegardsPeter DC (talk) 21:40, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Additions

[edit]

Hi Peter Cowlishaw Zacwill16 I have added a section on the legacy of Isobel and a new collection that belongs to Carlowrie Castle. It is a collaboration with the RSGS and is a collection of personal interpretations of Isobel's story by leading artisans based on extensive research. It is intended as a new way of conveying Isobel's story and continuing in her tradition of using creative mediums to narrate her experiences such as film, painting and poetry. I didn't want to tamper with any of the images without your permission but if you would like some additional images of Isobel, her paintings, her maps, her books, her adventures or the collection about her, I have some great ones set by. Hope this is all ok. RegardsUser:Waller91
