Isaiah Thomas (basketball, born 1989) → Isaiah Thomas (basketball) – Discussions at Talk:Tony Parker (basketball, born 1993)#Page move brought this article to my attention. Since this Isaiah Thomas spells his name differently than Isiah Thomas, who is the primary topic at Isiah Thomas (disambiguation), there is not really a compelling reason not to place this article at Isaiah Thomas (basketball). Furthermore, Isaiah Thomas (basketball) already redirects to this page. I think there should be a redirect at Isiah Thomas (basketball) to the primary topic (or the disambiguation page). If the redirect is pointed to the primary topic, it could have a hatnote with the following text "Isiah Thomas (basketball) redirects here, for the 2010s professional basketball player see Isaiah Thomas (basketball), for other uses, see Isiah Thomas (disambiguation)." TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 00:59, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
- I can Support this so long as the redirect for the HOFer is created. Otherwise people would get (more) confused. Rikster2 (talk) 01:04, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
- Rikster2, can you bold your support for procedural custom.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 04:28, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
- Support No-brainer to me, they have different names, even though Isaiah was obviously named after Isiah. Timmyshin (talk) 03:26, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
- Comment Isaiah Jamar Thomas ? -- 65.94.43.89 (talk) 04:50, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
- No. He is not known by that name. We should not use an uncommon name to avoid a redirect. Rikster2 (talk) 11:55, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose - an unusual variant spelling of Isaiah is not a different name In ictu oculi (talk) 23:35, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
- In ictu oculi, Haven't spelling variants always been considered different page names on WP?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 01:00, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
- Let me clarify. I know that there are articles for spelling variants like Stefanie X and Stephanie X or Elizabeth X and Elisabeth X. However, I am not sure if there are articles for Stefanie Foo (X) and Stephanie Foo (X) or Elizabeth Foo (X) and Elisabeth Foo (X). Is there a policy against identical disambiguants for spelling variations?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 14:12, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

- This is a case of a misspelling. In ictu oculi (talk) 21:07, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
- In ictu oculi, In your world, there are probably right and wrong ways to spell names. I don't really think you should start a category Categorry:People who I think misspell their names. On WP, we just view names like Isiah Thomas, Dwyane Wade and Allyson Felix as alternate spellings that are no less acceptable than Stephen vs. Steven, Allen or Allan vs. Alan, Elizabeth vs. Elisabeth or Stephanie vs. Stefanie.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 22:01, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
- Yes "in my world" there is a difference between a variant and a misspelling. The point is anyone looking for either Isaiah Thomas is likely to spell Isaiah correctly. WP:RECOGNIZABILITY, and the former NBA All-Star and Hall of Fame guard is also spelled Isaiah in some sources. In ictu oculi (talk) 22:06, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- In ictu oculi, WP:RECOGNIZABILITY does not appear to make any statements about misspellings or variant spellings. However, can you tell me which of the following pairs/groups are correctly spelled Ann/Anne, Ana/Anna, Derek/Derrick, Kristin/Kristen/Krysten/Krystin, Stephen/Steven, Allen/Allan/Alan, Elizabeth/Elisabeth, Darryl/Derrill (there are actually approximately 27 spellings of Darryl), Stephanie/Stefanie, Gerry/Jerry, Bobby/Bobbie, etc. I imaging that any of them are often misspelled in some sources.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 00:55, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

- Support; the hall-of-famer is probably the primary topic of the two, but either way names with "basketball" in them are a WP:TWODABS situation, and further disambiguation between them is not needed at all. bd2412 T 02:03, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- Support. Even if one of the spellings is an uncommon way to spell the name, "Isiah Thomas" and "Isaiah Thomas" are distinct, so there's no reason why we can't have Isiah Thomas (basketball) and Isaiah Thomas (basketball). Hatnotes can take care of any confusion. As an example of variant spellings with the same disambiguation tag, we have two different novels at Catherine (novel) and Katherine (novel). Egsan Bacon (talk) 15:14, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose Avoid readers at Isiah Thomas (disambiguation) having to do a double take on a Isaiah Thomas (basketball) entry when the primary topic, Isiah Thomas, is also a basketball player. "Isn't this the same as the primary topic? Why is it listed twice. Ohhhh, there's an extra 'a' on this one. Sigh." AFAIK, this is the convention when the primary topic and a non-primary topic are in the same domain. See Jordan Adams, male basketball player, and Jordan Adams (basketball, born 1981), female basketball player.—Bagumba (talk) 06:04, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
- Bagumba you are giving an example where the names are spelled the same. This is more like Alan Jones (cricketer) and Allan Jones (cricketer), the names are spelled differently. Do you have any examples where the names are variant spellings?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 12:03, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
- Support. The existing disambiguation page at Isiah Thomas (disambiguation) is just fine and the current hatnote at Isaiah Thomas (basketball, born 1989) is also just fine. older ≠ wiser 11:18, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

Change "In Game 2 against Washington, Thomas scored 53 points—the second-highest total in Celtics playoff history—to help Boston win 129–119 in overtime and take a 2–0 lead in the series" to "In Game 2 against Washington, Thomas scored 53 points—the second-highest total in Celtics playoff history—to help Boston win 129–119 in overtime and take a 2–0 lead in the series, on what would have been his late sister's 23rd birthday." - Not done. He was assigned to Canton to scrimmage with the team for a few hours. In the grand scheme of Thomas' career, this is very, very minor and anymore than a small note in the prose is more than enough. DaHuzyBru (talk) 03:35, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

- @Kaynepp: Can you cite a reliable source? Note that something like this from ESPN is breaking news, which we wouldn't use becuase they base it off of anonymous sources. Moreover, they phrase it as "is signing", as opposed to "signed" i.e. past tense, done deal. You can refer to Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports/Handling sports transactions for more info.
