Merge

[edit]

Who puts the merge template up and not a discussion text about it? I move to instead reverse the merge, and merge the Turnpike into I-95 in New Hampshire. --MPD01605 03:13, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Length

I-95 is 16.203 mi, Turnpike to circle is 14.290 mi --SPUI (T - C - RFC) 11:27, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox and lead

[edit]
  • No major issues. I was caught by the statement that the turnpike begins "near" the Massachusetts state line, but I see that is where the tolling begins.

Route description

[edit]
  • Confused about the liquor stores. Since this sentence says the Interstate crosses two state highways without interchanges, how are they accessed?
    • Split to avoid confusion. The liquor stores have exits, while the other highways do not (which is typical for a turnpike).
  • Is "Hampton outlet" a proper name? If this refers to something in the town of Hampton, move the link to the town here.
    • Not a proper name. Link moved.
  • Change second use of "NH 101" to "This highway" or something else.
    • Shifted things a bit to have all NH 101 information contained within one sentence.

History

[edit]
  • In final sentence of first paragraph, change "was" to "were" and consider linking NH 1 to the history section of U.S. Route 1 in New Hampshire.
    • Done, but with some added filler to prevent confusion.
  • Change "was opposed" to "faced opposition" and comma after "beaches".
    • Done, with some reworking for better flow.
  • Does "limited exits" mean limited-access, or a limited number of exits?
    • The latter has been added.
  • State highway engineer Daniel Dickenson resigned from their positions - did someone else also resign? If not, change to "his position".
    • Fixed.
  • Morse was later fired from his position by Frank Merrill, the new state highway commissioner following the resignation of Frederic E. Everett. - how much later was this firing. Was Everett's resignation also a result of this scandal?
    • Removed Everett.
  • I've never heard of 24-ft wide lanes. Maybe 12 ft lanes?
    • The source is inconsistent, so I've opted to remove the measurement entirely.
  • Was the Massachusetts spur built at the same time?
    • Not clear in the sources.
  • Consider mentioning that the I-95 designation was applied to the turnpike when AASHO approved the numbering in August 1957.
    • The month is not as important here.
  • Was the US 1 Bypass ever designated as part of I-95, despite not meeting interstate standards?
    • Not clear from the sources I have on hand.
  • Change "constructed" to "reconstructed in the sentence about the 1968 widening projects. Also, was this a Massachusetts project?
    • Using "rebuilt", and unsure about jurisdiction here. If it's not in the newspapers, I'm in the dark.

Tolls

[edit]

This certainly isn't a requirement, but a lot of articles about toll roads contain a history of the toll fares, and their inflation-adjusted price.

I consider that to be excessive, especially for a non-system article. The initial toll is already mentioned and it should be enough for a non-enthusiast.

Exit list

[edit]
  • Is "All Maine Points" a proper name? Is this also what the signs say?
    • It matches the signage.

References

[edit]

    • Added link in page parameter; the main bulk of the cited content is on the third page.
  • Add |agency=Associated Press to citations 32 and 52.
