Neutrality?

[edit]

I'm not an expert in WW1 history, but this is the internment and deportation of large numbers of people. I don't know how many non-naturalised Germans were in the UK at the time, but if someone wrote an article like this about the Japanese internment in the US it would be immediately called out, and rightfully so. For example, they were apparently interned "For their own safety as much as that of the British population", which seems very dubious. It says that "there was concern that this community would engage in acts of espionage and sabotage" -- when xenophobia is put in articles the article should clarify whether or not this happened. The end of the article says that "no acts of sabotage had been committed since the declaration of war ". The article also says that the British government was reluctant, "interning only those suspected of being a threat to national security", but 10,500 of 75,000 enemy aliens were already interned by 1914 -- it seems unlikely they were all reasonably suspected of being a threat to national security.
