[edit]Recent edits to 2016 Kaikoura earthquake have called into question the status of this road or highway. The article says that it lost its State Highway status, implying that its formal name is now "Inland Kaikoura Road", but says that it's also known by that name. Should we rename the article to that name, with a redirect from "State Highway 70"? To complicate matters, it's apparently been redesignated "Kaikoura Emergency Access Road" since the earthquake, but I expect that name will be lifted when other routes reopen or are created. - There are state highway articles currently for revoked highways (ie 17, 40, 52, 61 and 91) as well as two redirects (89 to Crown Range and 92 to Southern Scenic Route). I personally have no problem with redirecting SH 70 to Inland Kaikoura Road... leaving SH 70 open to being a separate article in the future if it is reestablished as a SH. What do others think? New Zealand State Highway 70 → Inland Kaikoura Road – Given that the state highway status has long been revoked, the article name is arguably not right. I suggest we move it to the official name. It's not a clear cut case, as even some recent articles refer to the road as SH 70; hence, a formal move request is probably best for sorting this out. See also the discussion above. - Qualified support – Although raising the topic in the first place, as an Aucklander I'm not familiar with the highway, its history of names, or what locals might call it or nickname it. I'd like to see more comment from South Islanders. Akld guy (talk) 05:46, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
- Fair comment, I am originally from Marlborough so I am familiar with this highway. Ajf773 (talk) 18:50, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
- Support The move is logical as that is its name in general use. A redirect from SH 70 would be helpful. NealeFamily (talk) 23:35, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
- Support - As per WP:COMMONNAME and also the proper name for the road. J947 05:32, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
