What's the difference?

[edit]

Okay, I know the names are different, and I recognize the league abbreviations, but I'm not sure what the diff is between "IPS Graduates who have competed in the IndyCar Series" and "Notable other CART ARS/Indy Lights alumni"? Including the diff in the text of the article would be really useful. Or is it just a case of Helio and Wheldon need to be moved from one listing to the other? Thanks ZueJay (talk) 00:56, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's a remnant from when the Indy Lights and Indy Pro Series articles were separate. I suppose the two lists of notable alumni could be merged into one, you'd just need a good header. -Drdisque (talk) 02:45, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm... Maybe just "Notable alumni"? ZueJay (talk) 22:27, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Country

[edit]

There seems to be disagreement to whether this is an American or international series. Please comment below. On a related point, International links to a disambiguation page and is not suitable for use in this context. Certes (talk) 19:55, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

While these races attract drivers from numerous countries, they are in fact participating in a race held in the United States. If this was a race from Toronto, Canada to St. Louis, Missouri, then that would be an international race. While the infoboxes for Grand Prix racing do not include the term, "country", no one would say that the Indy 500 isn't an American race. For races in Great Britain, for example, the country is the U.K., not international, despite the plethora of international drivers who participate in those races. See British Formula 3 International Series, BRDC British Formula 3 Championship for specific examples.Onel5969 TT me 19:57, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Indy Lights halo

[edit]

In the 2021 season, Indy Lights added the halo rollbar device instead of the IndyCar plexiglass windscreen. The [article should cover that change and why it added a halo instead of a windsrceen. Does anyone know the reason for the halo instead of the windshield? -- 67.70.27.246 (talk) 16:17, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

2023 rebrand

[edit]

Please do not move this article yet. The WP:COMMONNAME (seeWP:NAMECHANGES used in the reliable sources from today's announcement still use "Indy Lights". It will take time for "NXT" to become a COMMONNAME, and I personally suspect that WWE may want to have a conversation with Roger about the new name as well... - "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (c/t) 17:08, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Zackyboyman: can you please explain why you have moved this without so much as a discussion??? - "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (c/t) 19:23, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The common name hadn't adjusted yet because it was literally the first day, and thus most journos still weren't used to it yet. Now that it's been over a week, enough places have adjusted their terminology to refer to Indy NXT, as well as Google search now giving reliable results.
Also, the fact none has responded on WP:AOWR when I asked about what we need to for both the USF rebrand and this rebrand kinda shows that people don't really care to discuss it either... 🇮🇪 TheChrisD {💬|✏️} 13:22, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I really think we need to amalgamate the various subprojects of WP:WikiProject_Motorsports. I've had the same issue where I've started a discussion at Wikiproject level and no one responds. - "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (c/t) 15:22, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: not moved. No prejudice against a renomination in February. Also, first RM close, and the trout is nice and fresh. (non-admin closure) Clyde!Franklin! 01:19, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Indy LightsIndy NXT – Series was rebranded on November 3rd. Previous moves on November 8th were contested claiming a lack of WP:COMMONNAME, however sources are starting to adjust to the new title as new news articles and stories are being posted. Continued resistance to such a move based on news articles will likely result in no move being initiated until at least February... 🇮🇪 TheChrisD {💬|✏️} 13:36, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Indy LightsIndy NXT – Sources including RACER ([1]), motorsport.com ([2]) and Formula Scout ([3] - a slight outlier, using title-case "Nxt") are using the new name predominately now. Per WP:NAMECHANGES, I rescind my opposition to the move proposed by TheChrisD. - "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (work / talk) 17:52, 4 January 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. >>> Extorc.talk 19:27, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
