Icosahedral?
[edit]Isn't this better described as dodecahedral? Since the pieces act as corner pieces, they map to the vertices of a dodecahedron rather than the faces of an icosahedron. Not R (talk) 13:44, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
- An icosahedron has 20 triangular faces and the Impossiball has 20 (spherically) triangular pieces. The description reflects how the puzzle is built, not how it is solved. Hellbus (talk) 16:44, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
- Makes sense. I was thinking that they could just as well be considered rounded-off pyramids as rounded triangles (and the colored spots are more suggestive of faces), not stopping to think that it was actually a regular figure on the sphere. Not R (talk) 05:49, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
- This understandable confusion also helps highlight that the icosahedron and dodecahedron are dual polyhedra. Hellbus (talk) 19:01, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Proposed blank and redirect
[edit]I have recently created a new article on the Kilominx. I just thought the idea of the puzzle, and its wide availability, were strong enough for it to be worthy of its own article, rather than a mere one-sentence mention on the Mégaminx page. Moving on from that, I now propose that the Impossiball article be blanked and redirected to the new Kilominx article. The two puzzles are very closely related; the Impossiball is in fact just a shape modification of the Kilominx. Moreover, the new article does include a considerable mention of the Impossiball: most (if not all) of the information in the Impossiball article is also included in the new one, so no information on either puzzle would be removed at all.
Any objections? Skewb? (talk) 20:40, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- The Impossiball is quite different mechanically. The Kilominx is a Megaminx with the edges and centers hidden. The Impossiball has twelve thin plastic discs attached to the core. There are no hidden pieces, unlike the Kilominx. The mechanism also means that a lot of flexing happens during a turn. The two puzzles are mathematically identical, however. Beyond that I'm not sure about merging the articles. The Impossiball predates the Kilominx significantly. Hellbus (talk) 18:11, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
- Well never mind, the Kilominx article has been deleted anyway... Skewb? (talk) 11:05, 13 October 2018 (UTC)
