Article issues

[edit]

As well as needing cleanup, this article has other issues, namely:

  1. It does not have anything in the form of references to support its notability, in fact it has no third party references at all.
  2. Without references its notability per WP:N must come into question.

I was tempted to nominate for AFD on the spot but, I think this may just be notable. I'm sure there are some outside sources other than the book written by the two co-creators of this society. Also, as Nicholas Dobson is one of the two creators, he really should not be actively editing the article per the conflict of interest policy. Articles that are started in this fashion seldom turn out to be thorough or neutral, and almost never adhere to the proper style guidelines.--Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 18:18, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Another likely issue is the account is only to create/edit this article (wherever the link to single purpose account is) uh, here it is Wikipedia:Single-purpose account. Julia Rossi (talk) 11:06, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly I don't take too much of an issue with that part of it as long as an effort is made to keep some level of neutrality (which seems to be happening here). After all, almost every account on wikipedia was probably created with a very limited scope at the start. You can have a SPA without a conflict of interest, and you can certainly have a COI without an SPA. The only thing that worries me is that the original writer does have a fairly large COI and regardless of your commitment to stay neutral when a COI is in play it becomes almost impossible to do so.--Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 13:05, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Attempt to improve

[edit]

I have cleaned up and reorganized the article slightly, I tried to improve the article's neutrality, and I added citations to two more independent publications. As a semi-interested party (a member of the ICS but not one of the founders), I removed the notes about the article needing additional citations, but I did not remove the note about COI or notability. Please remove these if you find the article acceptable in these areas.

Adding to potential for notability

[edit]

I came here after reading the referenced book and hoped to find references to 'lodges' in my area. I found 2 in Mass, USA not far from me.

I edited the page to add the URL for one of the lodges I found. This group, on their Facebook Fan Page, states: "We're doing the Immersion Composition Society thing. Look it up, then join us!"

I believe this may add evidence that this is a growing and real phenomenon outside the pages of the referenced book.
