ONJ and Opening Line

[edit]

Added Olivia Newton-John to the covers section. I believe she was the first to cover the song, for her debut album. In unintended reference to 85's comment from 2011, I also added a line to the intro quoting the first few words of the song. I know the copyrighted material warning is there to prevent wholesale quoting of the lyrics, but it is totally fair use to quote a few words so that this song and its article isn't confused with the many other songs of this title (as 85 implies happened). I personally only found out it was originated by Bread a few minutes ago when looking up info on the song having heard Olivia's version for the first time today. I always thought it was a James Taylor song from the late 70s. 23skidoo (talk) 22:04, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nonsense

[edit]

This article is a bunch of nonsense. The persons that wrote the article confuse the song "if" by evans, hargreaves and damerell with this "if" by bread. This is why we have things like "it was quickly covered by Perry Como!!, Frank Sinatra!!, Telly Savalas!!" Nonsense! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.242.76.186 (talk) 19:02, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I just checked the Telly Savalas version, and it's definitely "if" by Gates. I don't have time to check the other versions.Literaturegirl (talk) 21:25, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wedding song

[edit]

The source from brides.com that is supposed to support the claim that this song is a "perennial favorite at weddings" does not mention Bread or this song at all, nor do any archives of the URL.

I don't doubt the claim, but I can't seem to find any sources that actually back it up. 199.120.30.204 (talk) 21:40, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
