Central serbia

[edit]

The Central Serbia article suggests that it was not even an administrative division, and in any case it no longer exists. In that case it would be silly to link to it when Serbia is a more accurate and more neutral target. bobrayner (talk) 22:03, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alternate names

[edit]

To Antidiskriminator: I added the names on a separate sentence as i thought it would be more understandable than changing the sentence to 'Ibar, also know as Ibri or Iber'. Why did you revert the edit? The Albanian names are also used in English sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dirifer (talkcontribs) 19:10, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Albanian language name is already presented in the first sentence, as I explained. If this river is referred to as Ibër or Ibri in English language sources it is not what Albanians call this river anymore, but an alternative English language name.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 20:05, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
it is not what Albanians call this river anymore. I think you are wrong there; Albanians call the river by the names Ibër or Ibri, which is why in the first sentence is says 'Albanian: Ibër or Ibri'. I wanted to edit the article for it to include Iber and Ibri as other names for the article, as they are also used (but less frequently used) in English articles. I had two options; changed the first sentence to 'Ibar, also known as Iber and Ibri,...' or add a second sentence after the first paragraph to explain this. As you are saying that writing the sentence after the first paragraph, i will instead include the names in the beginning of the article. OK? Dirifer (talk) 09:34, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I wanted to say that names used by Albanians to refer to some river are completely irrelevant for the alternative name on wikipedia articles. Iber is alternative name not because Albanians use it, but because some English language sources use it. Your correction is ok.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 20:46, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. So, you are saying that 'Iber' is used by English sources and not in use by Albanians themselves? Sureley then the first line, which says in brackets 'Albanian: Ibër, Ibri' should be changed? (as Iber is just a different version of the Serbian name Ibar, and not used by Albanians) Correct me if i am wrong. Dirifer (talk) 18:45, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • No. What I said is that names used by Albanians are irrelevant for alternative name on wikipedia. In this case Iber and Ibri are alternative names because they are used in English language sources. Not because they are used by Albanians.
  • Names in brackets are not alternative names, but names in local languages. If there is a mistake in Albanian name, feel free to correct it. --Antidiskriminator (talk) 19:25, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, yes i understand. No there is no mistake in the Albanian names (as far as i know). Dirifer (talk) 09:46, 2 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
