No support for iPhone 4?

Promotion?!?!

I'm not familiar with articles around Apple products, but I just checked on the Windows 8 article, and it doesn't have nearly the level of detail about product specs that this one does. That laundry list looks like both advertising/promotion for Apple, and a free specialized service to Apple users not in line w/ Wikipedia's information mission 'for the masses.' I propose killing that box, and letting some knowledgeable person replace it with a summary of the new system's features. Regards Tapered (talk) 04:06, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

I agree with you, Tapered, the list of new functions just seems like an advert. Some sections are not even written from a neutral point of view. Also rating this article about some mobile operating system that is not even released as High-importance on the project's importance scale is way over the top IMHO.   –Frankly, my dear... _{I do give a damn!} 18:54, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Do you think we should remove information that has already been announced by Apple? We have an article about iOS 8, obviously we're going to include what we know. If it bothers you, I suggest making contributions to the Windows 8 article like MrCellular suggested. If the consensus was that the article was written like an advertisement, we could put an advert template at the top of the article, but I don't feel like there's enough consensus. Messages will be automatically deleted?

Dodgy sources, what to do?

Source #36 is also almost entirely nonsense. It was offered on our iOS 7 iPad by going to Settings > General > Software Update, and Apple's iOS page no longer says "coming soon" as it did for me earlier today. Where are you looking to see whether it's been released? (Oh, and it's only about 3/4 hour past noon where I'm typing this, which is also what time it is in Cupertino....) It was removed by a non-human, with the edit comment "removing a protection template from a non-protected page". The edit that protected the page had the edit comment "Protected IOS 8: Persistent vandalism ([Edit=Allow only autoconfirmed users] (expires 07:31, 29 September 2014 (UTC)) [Move=Allow only autoconfirmed users] (expires 07:31, 29 September 2014 (UTC)))", and I think 7:31, 29 September 2014 (UTC) is now in the past, which is presumably why the bot removed the template. Edits About the iOS version history

Look, in iOS beta versions, DO NOT ADD YOUR OWN REQUESTS!!! to their respective sections. An example from the template is Must improve performance on iPad (3rd and 4th generations) . A telltale sign of this is the use of the word "Must", like the writer is hoping that Apple will do this, but is not part of the change log. Please do not do this, as this is not a fact confirmed by the beta change log, which can easily be accessed by a quick Google search. Plus, refrain from placing performance issues to other parts of the article, since that is mainly opinion based too. Head to the talk page to talk about it. P.S. I actually think most if not all of the version history needs to go... it's a direct violation of Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information#4—version histories are not supposed to be this detailed. It might be defended as "useful" by some, but it certainly isn't encyclopedic. "Problems" section

This article contains a large part of text in the Problems section based on a forum post. Reason

This is the reason why iOS 8 is unavailable for iPhone 4: Many of the new features in iOS 8 rely on hardware (such as Bluetooth LTE) which your phone does not have, and it would run very slowly. Yes, OS vendors often don't make updates available for older hardware, as it requires more CPU/memory/etc. than the older hardware has. Not at all unique to iOS 8; Apple drops support for older machines with some OS X releases, and my first-generation iPhone doesn't support iOS 4 or later. Guy Harris (talk) 22:47, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
