I'm a Lady (Meghan Trainor song)I'm a Lady – The Mary Wells song is definitely not notable. The album has a distinct title. So requesting to move this to "I'm a Lady".-Shane Cyrus (talk) 13:29, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

  • Support move to "I'm a Lady" parentheticals are very needless when there's no other song of this name that warrants an article, and album's title I'm a Lady: The Old, New & Best of Mary Wells is certainly enough to distinguish itself from this song. A referral note could be placed at the top of this article if needed. Snuggums (talk / edits) 14:13, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
  • Support move to "I'm a Lady": My thoughts echo what SNUGGUMS said. Even if Mary Wells' album had an article, it wouldn't be under "I'm a Lady" due to that not being the full title. FanofMusic (Talk to Me!) 20:50, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
@C.Fred: @Tokyogirl79: In that case can an admin make the move? It is very snowy over here.--Shane Cyrus (talk) 13:35, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

Infobox and lead

  • Recording date is unsourced
  • "For the 1983 song," → "For the Mary Wells song,"
  • "Meghan Trainor to promote the film" → "Meghan Trainor, for promotion of the film"
  • "Martin Renea co-wrote it, and co-produced it with" → "Martin Renea co-wrote and co-produced the song, alongside"
  • This wording gave the idea that the Monsters and the Strangerz were involved in the songwriting too, so I tweaked it a bit.
  • "Epic Records released it as a single" → "Epic Records released the song for digital download and streaming as a single" with the appropriate targets
  • "percussion-heavy instrumentation, "I'm a Lady" is a" → "percussion-heavy instrumentation, it is a"
  • "song that has lyrics about" → "song, with the lyrics discussing"
  • "It received mostly positive reviews from music critics" → "The song received mostly positive reviews from music critics" with the target and add what was praised
  • "charted at number 40 on the US Adult Top 40 chart and 300 on the Russia Airplay chart" → "reached number 40 and 300 on the US Adult Top 40 and Russia Airplay charts, respectively, in 2017" with the target
  • "directed the music video," → "directed an accompanying music video,"
  • "2017, and features only" → "2017. The video features solely"
  • "in settings such as a boardroom, wearing" → "who are seen in a boardroom, wearing"
  • "shooting archery and lifting weights" → "shooting archery, and lifting weights"
  • "Trainor has performed "I'm a Lady" live" → "In 2017, Trainor performed the song live"

Background and release

  • "In October 2015, Meghan Trainor" → "In October 2015, Trainor"
  • Add releae year of The Peanuts Movie soundtrack in brackets
  • "contributed another track called "Good to be Alive" to its" → "recorded another track entitled "Good to be Alive" for the"
  • "with The Monsters and the Strangerz" → "with the Monsters and the Strangerz"
  • "announced that she had written the song for the film Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017) at the 2016 KIIS-FM Jingle Ball, describing it" → "announced at the 2016 KIIS-FM Jingle Ball that she had written the song for the film Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017), describing the song"
  • "fire'" and an" → "fire'", and called it an"
  • Wikilink upbeat to itself per MOS:LINK2SECT
  • The last sentence of this para provides irrelevant information to this section; add the Friday release date announcement here instead but move the stills info to Music video; try something in this section like "Weeks prior to its release, Trainor had announced the song for release on..."
  • "was edited by her brother" → "was edited by Meghan's brother"
  • "released as a single for digital download and streaming" → "released for digital download and streaming as a single by Epic Records"
  • "on February 27 and 28," → "on February 27 and February 28, 2017,"
  • I have a general rule of thumb that the year should only be mentioned once in a section per month, since more than that makes it look a bit cluttered.
  • ""I'm a Lady" led to Trainor" → ""I'm a Lady" being used for promotion of Smurfs: The Lost Village led to Meghan Trainor"
  • "was released on" → "was ultimately released on"
  • "and did not include the song" → "with it not including the song"

Composition

  • Retitle to Composition and lyrics
  • "of "I'm a Lady"'s" → "of the song's" on the audio sample text
  • The prose of this section should start with the last sentence instead
  • The penultimate sentence should be the second instead in the new order
  • "has empowering lyrics" → "features empowering lyrics"
  • "Its pre-chorus" → "The pre-chorus" with the appropriate wikilink
  • "with its chorus" → "with the chorus of the song" with the target
  • "Both sections repeat a few times" → "Both sections are repeated a few times"
  • ""I'm a Lady" has a positive message and percussion-heavy instrumentation," → ""I'm a Lady" includes percussion-heavy instrumentation and has a positive message,"
  • Target spoken to Spoken word
  • "noted to be reminiscent to her" → "noted to be reminiscent of her"

Critical reception

  • Maybe retitle this to Reception and mention the two chart positions in this section since they are written in the lead?
  • "by some critics" → "by some music critics"
  • "and its beat is one that" → "and said its beat is one that"
  • Target feminist to Feminism
  • "for the singer, and" → "for Trainor, and"
  • "She additionally criticized Trainor" → "Cauterucci additionally criticized Trainor"
  • "each other with the lyric" → "each other with the lyrics,"
  • "It received a nomination" → "The song received a nomination"

Music video

  • Wikilink music video to itself
  • "sees Trainor performing with a band" → "begins with Trainor performing alongside a band"
  • "scenes of women succeeding" → "scenes of women achieving success"
  • "walks of life, including:" → "walks of life, including;"
  • "shooting archery and lifting weights" → "shooting archery, and lifting weights"
  • "Outfits worn by Trainor" → "Outfits worn by Trainor for the visual"
  • "was described by Roth as "women can" → "was described by Roth as conveying the message that women "can"
  • Merge the second para with the first since it is only three sentences
  • "in the video, and it" → "in the music video, and said it"
  • "and do what they want." → "and do what they want"."
  • "constituting the" → "noting that she employs the"
  • "empowerment" with Trainor modeling" → "empowerment", commenting that Trainor models"
  • "and positively compared it" → "while positively comparing them"

Live performance

  • Merge with the above section as the bottom para since it is only two lines and retitle the above to Music video and live performance
  • "performed "I'm a Lady" on" → "performed "I'm a Lady" for"
  • Target Today to Today (American TV program)
  • "This marked her first performance" → "This marked Trainor's first performance"
  • "and being on vocal rest" → "and taking a vocal rest"

Credits and personnel

  • Should Trainor be credited as lead vocals or vocals?

Charts

  • Weekly chart positions for "I'm a Lady" → Weekly chart performance for "I'm a Lady"
  • Positions seems a bit more accurate? Chart performance would imply we are covering the song's entire chart run in the table, when it's just peak positions.
  • Kind of understand what you mean, retitled to Chart performance for "I'm a Lady" as this is how you should do for tables where the weekly charts are the only one. --Kyle Peake (talk) 11:40, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Release history

  • The cols should not be sortable
  • Center the refs

References

  • Well done on having them ready and archived!
  • Copyvio score looks good at 20.6%
  • Remove ref 5's wikilink since this is her article, per WP:OVERLINK
  • Change ref 6 to citing Apple Music for all since that is what the URLs lead to, while have the wikilink solely on the US citation
  • Remove wikilink on Apple Music for ref 10

Final comments and verdict

  • Thanks a lot for the review, Kyle! I made all of the changes and left justifications for the very few I chose not to.--NØ 09:45, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
