Hoistmen
[edit]Just to note that there are medieval records that refer to these originally as the 'Hoistmen' becoming 'Hostmen' later. This might add credence to the idea that the etymology of the term is from those in charge of hoisting (loading/unload) coal, and that the hosting aspect comes later as part of being a business cartel.
