Suggest reverting contentious material
[edit]I suggesting reverting the good faith edit by User:montanabw which inserted the following text:
While there is no scientifically accepted definition of the term "breed,"[1] it is a term of art used by those who agree on the rules of heredity or standards of phenotype used qualify animals for inclusion in a given group.[2] Therefore, there will be some subjectivity over what is a true horse breed, an evolving breed, or a horse types.[3]

- ^ The Genetics of Populations. Jay L Lush. Iowa State University Press. 1994
- ^ Animal Pedigree Act - Secretary’s Manual (see sections on Breed Standards, Distinct Breeds, and Evolving Breeds), Canadian Department of Agriculture, retrieved August 26, 2011
This is a very selective reading of the valid discussion by Rischowsky and Pilling of what constitutes a breed. I think it an excellent an idea to include some of their arguments here, but in a balanced manner, which this is not. For example, they cite Lush as an extreme point of view, but that is not mentioned in the text as it stands; nor is the FAO's own definition, nor the legal aspects within Europe, nor indeed most of what they say. Perhaps it would be better to draft a better version of their arguments here before inserting it in the article? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:48, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- I put the material in because it was originally placed by WarlanderHorse (a new user) in the List of Horse breeds, where it didn't belong. I reworded it some because it read like a word for word copy from the source. But not having access to the source, It was taking a guess at the intended nuance. I'll revert the edit completely, but if you think the actual content is worth adding, feel free to put in a new version. No kick from me. This article could use some improvement. Hello @Shellypls @Montanabw: Why not? It is a group of breeds. Invasive Spices (talk) 17:33, 26 June 2023 (UTC)

[edit]I restored a "See also" section per MOS:SEEALSO—which discourages, though does not prohibit, duplicating links used earlier in the article. Mobile users don't see navbars. Per WP:NAV, "Do not rely solely on navboxes for links to articles highly relevant to a particular article. Navboxes are not displayed on the mobile website for Wikipedia, which accounts for around half of readers." ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 23:51, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
