Is the time ripe for a Homelessness Project?
[edit]It might be better off under a Human Rights Project, as a Task Force. But there is an Architecture/urban planning component as well. I would be willing to devote time to either a Homeless Project or to a Task Force. Does anyone have any other ideas on this?
Clearly there is need for a major reestructuring of this page and related pages. I think it is OK if I cross post this request to the relevant pages, pardon me if that is a faux pas.

I have problems with this work - citations 1,2 &3
[edit]These are useless citations which when googled refer back to this article. It needs to be reverted or corrected. It doesn't even tell you what country it originated in, what year, author's name. Nothing.
Regarding Citation 3: This is a really stale citation. 1999? Here is what the relevant portion of the citation states: Homeless Shelters
Throughout the development of the proposal, OSHA has been concerned about the feasibility of implementing a TB standard in homeless shelters because of the unique characteristics of the workforce in such shelters, the unique characteristics of the client population, and the non-profit nature of most homeless shelters. Prior to publication of the proposal, OSHA held stakeholder meetings with homeless shelter representatives and met with the Interagency Council on the Homeless to discuss issues related to the potential impact the standard might have on homeless shelters. In addition, during review under the Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act (SBREFA), small business representatives from the homeless shelter sector raised specific concerns about many shelters' ability to implement certain provisions of OSHA's proposed standard. To address issues related to the feasibility of the proposed standard for homeless shelters, OSHA requested information in the proposal and held special sessions at each hearing site to receive testimony from employers, employees, clients and others representing homeless shelters. In addition, OSHA initiated a study to examine these issues further through an on-site survey of a number of homeless shelters. The results of this study (Ex. 179-1) did not become available to OSHA until after the close of the public comment period. This study has now been placed in the docket for this rulemaking and is available for public comment.

Some information is incorrect
[edit]For example, you generally do have to be disabled (or very old and very poor) to receive SSI (supplemental security income). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.113.248.2 (talk) 19:20, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Homeless Female vs Male in Christian Activity Centered Shelters.
[edit]I can't stay at the shelters as an atheist being forced to listen to sermons for food or a mat. I don't know if the government is funding these sermons as that should violate Separation of Church and State. And so, when the homeless men find my "camp" guess who gets raped and can't go to Domestic Violence Rape Centers? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.246.145.111 (talk) 01:16, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
Not a great article
[edit]This article has so many problems. It needs to be written more consistently. The huge number of poorly written sentences, grammatical errors and dull language need to be fixed. Was much of it written by a child (or by someone whose command of English isn't too fluent)? And it should be rewritten to acknowledge that there are countries outside of the USA. If you just want to write about the USA then go and find a different encyclopaedia. Article on Wikipedia should focus on a world view or not exist.--37.182.191.249 (talk) 00:21, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
- Agreed, and in addition to the poor writing it contains blatant POV pushing. Kindzmarauli (talk) 23:33, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Add content on sanitation issues?
[edit]I saw that someone linked the article to menstrual hygiene day which is great. I think the article could also benefit from some content on sanitation (toilet, hygiene) issues. If I had time, I would start by looking at this discussion thread and see which references could be integrated: http://forum.susana.org/forum/categories/180-urban-informal-settlements-and-slums/13967-sanitation-for-the-homeless-in-the-us Just a hint in case someone else has some time to improve this article. I also think the headings need to be adjusted, so that more standard type headings are used (see for example Manual of Style of WikiProject Sanitation)EvM-Susana (talk) 08:49, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Rescue Missions vs Homeless Shelters
[edit]Rescue Missions[1] implies a religious organization. Homeless Shelters do not[2]. We have both here in Charlotte. The Rescue Missions are run by area churches while the Homeless shelters are run (not very well) by the county. Even the example given of "Denver Rescue Mission" never says "Homeless Shelter" on their website. At least I don;t see it as such. --172.72.47.40 (talk) 21:21, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Case management
[edit]In a specific section, case management is mentioned. I am aware of prisoner and criminal advantages, as having certain services as opposed to ALL homeless persons. Parole officers an Prison workers (upon a criminal discharge) have been known to be able to facilitate paperwork for social services. Does anyone have additional information on the criminal population of the homeless and their advantages as oppose to non-criminals? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.43.197.9 (talk) 16:58, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
