[edit]Is this the same as Highland Light? If so, a merge is in order under the best name. --Midnightdreary 02:27, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Yes it is the same one..... the other article doesn't cite references etc..... so I'll do a full rewrite of them both and fully reference it Geotek 16:30, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
Date of move?
[edit]A friend of mine had suggested that the year the lighthouse was moved was not correct. However following a little prompting concluded "the Nauset Light in Eastham...one of the Three Sisters.....which was moved after I purchased my cottage in 1998."

The result of the move request was: move. Cúchullain t/c 14:34, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
Cape Cod Highland Light → Highland Light – The official name of this light station at present is Highland Light, as testified to by current charts (NOAA Chart 13249) and the current light list (V1, where it is light no. 500). Up until about 1972 it was name "Cape Cod Light" (e.g. on this 1970 chart). It was never called "Cape Cod Highland Light". I propose to put the article under its current name and make Cape Cod Light a redirect to it. Mangoe (talk) 00:38, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- I don't understand the last sentence above. I think the article should be named Highland Light with redirects from Cape Cod Light, Cape Cod Highland Light and Highland Light Station (which is the NRHP name). . . Jim - Jameslwoodward (talk to me • contribs) 19:30, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- That would be consistent with what I propose. The problem is that the move is blocked because the various pages were created independently. Mangoe (talk) 21:16, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. Let's give this a week or so to gather any more comments. It's possible that I can move the article to replace the redirect at Highland Light (I haven't done much here in a couple of years and I don't remember) -- if not, one of us can ask a WP:EN Admin to delete the redirect so we can move the article there. . . - If you look at Highland Light (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), you'll see it was a copyright violation, so it should have been deleted. -- 76.65.131.248 (talk) 14:28, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- If you are referring to the 2007 version of the page, that's ancient history -- the question here is whether Highland Light is the correct name for the article on this lighthouse. Manogoe and I agree that it is. . . Jim - Jameslwoodward (talk to me • contribs) 16:00, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- Nonetheless, it contains the violation in the page history, and should the requested move not go there, it will still remain, so should be deleted to remove the copyright violation from accessibility, since the entire page was one big violation. -- 76.65.131.248 (talk) 16:38, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Move
[edit]In moving this article from Cape Cod Highland Light, I deleted the original page history at Highland Light as the early edits were determined to be a copyright violation. Discussion of this can be found in the talk page archive.--Cúchullain t/c 14:43, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
- What was your basis for this move? That it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places – a data point which hasn't been updated since 1987?!? As much as the locals (myself included) dislike the "Cape Cod Light" name, that is the official name of the lighthouse, as recorded on the "NOAA Nautical Chart for the region (I'm trying to locate this)"
NOAA's Light List (the authority on the subject), as well asas mentioned on the lighthouse's web page, plus some compelling evidence on the bottom line of this 1996 plaque (photographed in 2009) and this 1948 plaque (ditto). As best as I can tell, the article was correctly named before the move."Cape Cod Highland Light" was a compromise attempt, and a nod to the latter of the two links I provided.Grollτech (talk) 16:53, 24 December 2012 (UTC)- I stand (pleasantly) corrected on the Light List (and no, NOAA doesn't create the light list, the USCG does). I don't have any older copies of the light list, but I know I'd been down this road before, and double-checked the list a few years ago. I'll try to track down the nautical chart, so at the least, we can make reference to it in the article, and I'd love to get some clarity on exactly when the names changed back and forth. - The current chart is here, and the light can be found along the ocean shore near the east edge of the chart. It is clearly labelled "Highland Light". Mangoe (talk) 21:04, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
