human and platypus

[edit]
In platypuses, the male sex is heterogametic while the female sex is the homogametic sex.

Like all other mammals, as far as I know. Why single out that one? —Tamfang (talk) 05:29, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 23:53, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Drosophila wrong illiustration

[edit]

Illiustration is wrong, in Drosophila flies Y chromosome doesn't play part in sex determination. Sex is determined by ratio of X chromosomes to autosomes, Y chromosome is only necessary for fertility of male flies, and flies with XXY genotype will develop as female flies.

A good point. The page is seriously messed up and will take a while to incrementally improve. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 23:52, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As the two topics above have demonstrated, this page can badly deteriorate. I suggest merging it into Sex-determination system which is a much larger page. That might make maintenance easier. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 00:27, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
