Herðubreið and Hlöðufell
[edit]Is Herðubreið and Hlöðufell the same name for a tuya, or are these two different volcanoes, because I remember reading something about Hlöðufell being Iceland's most famous tuya, which I know Herðubreið is well known as well. Black Tusk 11:23, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- They are different volcanoes. I unfortunately haven't got a photo of Hlöðufell to upload but here's a link to one: [1]. I can't seem to find a decent map of Iceland online, but Hlöðufell is southwest of Langjökull and Herðubreið is north of Vatnajökull (just northeast of Askja). I would think that Herðubreið is considered Iceland's most famous tuya and I haven't heard any such sentiment about Hlöðufell. Neither of the names mean tuya, but I think the best translation of tuya might be Búrfell (which name many Icelandic mountains possess). Best regards, Icemuon 00:15, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I will try and find the web page where it said Hlöðufell is the most famous tuya in Iceland. Personally, I think Herðubreið is Iceland's most famous tuya, and therefore I agree with you. Black Tusk 01:10, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- Near the bottom of this page it says Hlöðufell Tuya is the most famous tuya in Iceland. [2] Black Tusk 01:20, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'm the author of the above-mentioned webpage. I wrote it almost seven years ago, and cannot now remember what prompted me to say that it was the "most famous tuya in Iceland." Perhaps it was something that our tour guide said at the time. However, since I can't remember why, I have changed the text on my page to simply indicate that it is one of the many well-known tuya in Iceland. I'm afraid that I cannot be definitive on the issue of their fame. —Rossbeyer 03:10, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
