I've tweaked the images to remove any px sizes, such images normally don't need any adjusting. Amitchell125 (talk) 21:42, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

More comments to follow. The licencing of the images needs to be checked and the references spot checked, hopefully tomorrow. Amitchell125 (talk) 16:39, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much! Let me know if there is anything that needs to be addressed in the meantime. Ppt91 (talk) 16:55, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just the Unism comment. Amitchell125 (talk) 17:44, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have decided to remove the reference altogether; Strzeminski first published about Unism in 1928 and it was primarily related to applying his own theories of vision to painting, so in the context of Constructivism and Stażewski it will feel like a tangent. I will, however, create an English article (stub for now) on Unism and hopefully focus on it more when working on the Strzeminski article in the future. Let me know if anything else, other than bib and images, need editing. And thanks again for your thorough and thoughtful review. Ppt91 (talk) 18:36, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

I am using Jean Bellette as a reference article here (an FA about an artist with similar dates, so a useful template for me). I have adjusted some information about the images on the Wikipedia or WikiCommons pages.

  • Image 1 (Stażewski ) The licencing for the infobox image looks fine, but how do you know the image was taken in the 1980s? He used the studio for nearly twenty years. comment: good point, it was my estimate based on the kind of works seen in the background typical of 1980s, especially what looks like this painting (https://www.artsy.net/artwork/henryk-stazewski-st-2) made in 1986 in the bottom right; I have no confirmation of the exact date though
You will need to remove the estimated date then. Amitchell125 (talk) 22:14, 17 January 2023 (UTC) done[reply]
  • Image 2 (The front page of Blok) The caption shouldn’t have a full stop. As images of the publication are in the public domain (see https://jbc.bj.uj.edu.pl/dlibra/publication/92551), I have uploaded a large-sized version of the page from https://jbc.bj.uj.edu.pl/dlibra/publication/92554/edition/85906. The correct date is 8 March 1924, which I would include in the article. done (thanks for the upload and removed periods from all captions)
  • Images 3 (Kompozycja) and 4 (Kompozycja fakturowa) - a suggestion only - Kompozycja is mentioned in the following section, along with Kompozycja fakturowa. There’s room for them both if placed next to each other, using Template:Multiple image, which is what I suggest is done. I can do this for you if you want. In the second half of the 1920s, Stażewski's work was influenced by the theories and work of the De Stijl artists is duplicated in the text of the article, and so isn’t needed in the caption. The works are both kept in the Muzeum Sztuki and I would include this information in the captions (e.g. for image 3 {{lang|Kompozycja|pl}}, oil on canvas ({{circa|1929{{ndash}}1930}}), [[Muzeum Sztuki]]). Image 4 (or the multiple images) could be moved up to the the top of this subsection, to make the article look more aesthetically pleasing.

comment: This sounds great. If it isn't too much trouble, I'd love to take you up on your offer to format the images and will much appreciate it!  Done AM

  • Image 5 (Escape) The website where the image was obtained from calls the work Ucieczka in Polish, worth putting in for the sake of consistency? It is owned by the Fundacja Rodziny Staraków. The painting should be mentioned in the article, as I believe a non-free image cannot be used simply as an illustration.

done (source is mentioned in the original file description; should current ownership be also reflected in the caption?)

Yes I think so. AM
  • Image 6 (On the Recovered Territories) the painting is owned by the National Museum, Szczecin (which can be linked). done Note: I've uploaded and used a fair-use version of the image, as the WikiCommons one is up for deletion. AM

comment: thank you Ppt91 (talk) 15:25, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I will also look into the Wikimedia upload, as the image was provided for CC by the museum through their own wiki (Pomeranica). However, the current version works for now and I appreciate your uploading it as a fair-use image. Ppt91 (talk) 16:02, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

More comments to follow tomorrow. AM

  • Images 7-11 Gallery images, and 12 (Kompozycja pionowa nieograniczona), 13 (Nr. 49), 14 (Untitled), and 15 Neoplastic Room - all look OK. Green tickY
  • Image 16 (Infinite Vertical Composition) (gallery) - is very similar to another image used, and so should I think be discarded. done
  • Image 17 (Untitled) (gallery) - is looking lost on its own, and can perhaps be left out, as it can easily be accessed at the WikiCommons page for Stażewski. Add {{Commons category}} to the external links section to help readers access the images there. done (removed the section altogether)

More comments to follow. AM

References

[edit]
  • Ref 1 (Bartelik); Ref 12 (Mikina); Ref 41 (NYT) Subscription templates ((subscription required)) would be useful at the end of this references. done
  • Ref 3 and 23 are both better imo placed in a Notes section, Lodder occurs twice, so which one is being referred to here? The text needs to be properly cited. done (included "Notes" section and "Citations" separate below)
  • Ref 7 (Kohlrausch) – the link doesn’t lead to the text and so I would omit it. done (removed link)
  • Ref 20 (prawo) - the text shouldn’t be in capitals (MOS:CAPS). done

On hold

[edit]

I'm putting the article on hold for a week until 26 January to allow time for the remaining issues raised to be addressed. Regards, Amitchell125 (talk) 14:19, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Amitchell125 I've gone through the remaining sections and I believe all issues have now been addressed. Please take a look whenever you have a moment. With much gratitude for your thorough and truly helpful feedback! Ppt91 (talk) 16:04, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Passing

[edit]

The article is in great shape, so I'm now passing it. I'm assuming that the sources say very little about Stażewski's parents, childhood, or his life during the war, as rather strangely there's not a lot said about these things in the article, and a search through some of the sources yielded nothing else. Grove mentions he stopped painting during the war, which perhaps could be added.

There is a link here to what looks like his official biography in Polish (Ładnowska, used in Ref 33), which could be added to the reference, and perhaps highlighted somewhere in the article.

Congratulations on your first GA! Amitchell125 (talk) 16:36, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. I really appreciate it. As for his early years, you're right that it should be addressed a bit more, but sources are scarce. I actually was unaware that the Ladnowska catalogue was available online for free on MSL website--I have my own scans from when I borrowed the book--so that's very useful. I'll browse through it again and see if there are any milestones in his early life that could be added (and will include that he's stopped painting during the war, as well). Sending my best wishes!
