[edit]Henry of Gloucester is one of the more fascinating "what ifs" of history. According to the not--always-reliable Bishop Burnet:
“He was active, and loved business; was apt to have particular friendships, and had an insinuating temper which was generally very acceptable. The King loved him much better than the Duke of York.”
He does seem to have been a rather stout-hearted young man who remained a staunch Protestant in the face of his mother's severe disapproval. If he had not died of smallpox weeks after the Restoration, he would likely have become the rallying point for the anti-James faction (rether than William of Orange). Subsequent British history might have been very different.
I am not putting any of this in the actual article because I have no exact references at this point. Cranston Lamont 03:47, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
Recently the file File:Henry, Duke of Gloucester by Johann Boeckhorst.jpg (right) was uploaded and it appears to be relevant to this article and not currently used by it. Changing the main portrait to Boeckhorst's?
[edit]Hello, anyone have any thoughts on changing Henry Stuart's main image to that of Boeckhorst's, painted in 1659, featuring a 19-year old Henry Stuart? While I like the current portrait, I feel like it's not proper using a portrait of a 13-year-old Henry as his infobox image, considering the guy died when he was 20. Anyone agree or have some thoughts? Yourlocallordandsavior (talk) 07:04, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
