1960
[edit]Markopolos seems to have been born in about 1960. A birth certificate is needed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.158.207.21 (talk) 11:24, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
- He graduated from high school in 1974 so was most likely born in 1956-1957. OccamzRazor (talk) 19:29, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- His date of birth is now given as 22/10/1956. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.52.216.96 (talk) 16:24, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
Army Special Operations
[edit]From his prepared testimony to Congress: "My army special operations background trained me to build intelligence networks, collect intelligence reports from field operatives, devise lists of additional questions to fill in the blanks, analyze data...." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ehaugo (talk • contribs) 15:03, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
- I couldn't find that in the PDF. —Doppo145 (talk) 23:47, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

"his customers"
[edit]English isn't my mother tongue, but I guess "Markopolos believes that his customers lost $10 billion to $35 billion, most of which went to early investors." has a grammatical flaw. Instead of his, it should read "Madoffs customers". Right? --85.177.88.245 (talk) 22:30, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- Fixed. While it was grammatically correct it was certainly ambiguous. Snori (talk) 03:52, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Dates
[edit]The text implies that Markopolos first complained to the SEC in 1999. It also implies that he started studying Madoff's fraud in 2000. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.180.182.155 (talk) 12:11, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- It has been improved since then. — Preceding unsigned comment added by G6934 (talk • contribs) 10:50, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Move content from this bio. to the book article
[edit]
- Specifically, most of the second and third paragraph of the article, leaving behind a brief synopsis and a link:
Dogears (talk) 04:41, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
- Agree. Tonight I added a couple of lines about the book to the introduction (with reference to the article mentioned), since he said that in order to write the book they turned down plaintiff’s law firms offering them "lots of money" to be expert witnesses in cases involving so-called "feeder" funds (hedge funds) to Madoff. He said "For us it wasn’t about the money - it was about getting the truth out." 71.173.64.60 (talk) 07:03, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Orphaned references in Harry Markopolos
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Harry Markopolos's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 05:34, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
Photo please
[edit]Can a photo be added of Harry, please? The only photo in the article is of Madoff, so some external sources (e.g.: Facebook) show Madoff's photos, which misleads people.ReveurGAM (talk) 07:09, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- There are many but WikiCommons is very particular about having the rights.--LedgerTom (talk) 18:46, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Critics of Markopolos intro?
[edit]This part in the opening section of this wiki article feels very strange:
"Critics of Markopolos have called him obsessive, a self-publicist, and self-righteous, and some questioned whether he was motivated by a financial bounty, which he denied"
Why is this prominent?
Markopolos discovered evidence of the Madoff fraud, and wrote a book. Various speculations on personality defects seem irrelevant. 137.83.120.180 (talk) 07:49, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
It also isn't really borne out by hte references. I suggest we delete. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.102.79.80 (talk) 12:30, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
