• Hi DeLarge, I don't necessarily agree with it but since the 2017 RFC the Daily Mail was listed at Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources#Daily_Mail as not to be used as a source in articles except in reference to the actions of the publication itself. Is there an alternative source you could replace it with? - Dumelow (talk) 07:41, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
  • His Wimbledon player profile (https://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/draws_archive/player_profile/eb7d8fee-06c4-4012-b389-e2673dd6dd3b.html -- already used as a source) shows that he played at the tournament ten times and won eight singles matches, although it doesn't mention his handicap. His handicap is mentioned in the History Press link (https://www.thehistorypress.co.uk/articles/a-miscellaneous-history-of-wimbledon/), but not his Wimbledon appearances or match record. I used the DM link because it combined both facts into one source. EDIT: Oooh, hang on, the book reference mentions both: "The Austrian Hans Redl lost his left arm in the war - in combat - but played at Wimbledon from 1947 to 1956 using only his other arm". All that's missing from that is the fact he won eight matches. DM references now removed. I've cited the ATP as source for his birthdate. Haven't confirmed his exact deathdate so left the tag in place. I'd point out that citing sources for birth/death dates in infoboxes isn't common practice for tennis players on WP; see e.g. Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, or some players mentioned in this article, e.g. Lew Hoad or Bob Falkenburg. Also, Redl's birth/death dates have been listed on his French Wikipedia article since it was created seven years ago.

Finally, I simply removed the tag requesting a source for him being right-handed. Again, check other tennis player article infoboxes. If you somehow doubt he's right-handed, here's some pictures of him at Wimbledon sans his left arm. This article needs a citation for his handedness less than any other on Wikipedia.

If it still won't pass muster for DYK, I'll withdraw the nom. I'm not doing any more work on this. DeLarge (talk) 19:39, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi DeLarge. I didn't doubt that he was right handed, the bit that was not cited was that he used backhand, I've just removed this for now (indeed in those photos you linked he seems to be playing forehand, though ). You don't need citations in the infobox if the information is cited in the main text (as it is in those examples you've listed, but wasn't in Redl's article). I've trimmed off his death date, leaving just the year (which is cited); I find death and birthdays are one of those things that tend to be added on one Wikipedia language then spread without citation and are not infallible.

I hope you don't think I've been overly picky on this, I think WP:Verifiability is our most important policy and whatever we put on the main page should be compliant. The article looks good and the hook is particularly interesting and is stated in the source. I am not familiar with many of the tennis-related sources used but happy to assume on good faith that they are reliable. Article was created 3 October. A QPQ is not required.
