Expert
[edit]Apologies for agreeing with AR - against the rules, I know - but I really can't see the point in calling him an "expert". If that isn't obvious from his positions (and I moved "director of PIK" up, then adding the phrase won't help.
I think keeping "an expert on tipping points" may well be fair, cos that isn't obvious from his positions William M. Connolley (talk) 23:32, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
- It would be reasonable if it's from a reliable source, not an "about the author" blurb. At least one of the references was an "about the author" blurb. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 00:08, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- I don't see "expert" in the four references for that section, other than "the German government's expert" (without specifying in what). However, I further apologize for assuming bias or arbitrary overcategorization on the part of User:Id447. Adding Category:Climate change and Category:Global warming still seems inappropriate, but perhaps we have some appropriate categoies to add him. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 00:19, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- In defense of "an expert on climatological tipping points", many people have referred to climatic tipping points, however if you have your name on a scientific paper that defines these terms, your level of knowledge is far above most people who use this term. Even if you object to the term "tipping points", you must admit he is very knowledgeable in that subject.
- Concerning the Category:Climate change and Category:Global warming and the template climate change and global warming. Schellnhuber has edited "The science of disasters: climate disruptions, heart attacks, and market crashes" and even if you disagree with his conclusions, you have to admit he is an important part of the on going study of climate change and global warming.
Id447 (talk) 21:54, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- In regard Category:Climate change and Category:Global warming, subcategories might be more appropriate. I have two problems, related to the 99. anon (now at 171.) tendency to add everything to both of those categories (and now Sustainability categories):
- Category:Global warming is an obvious subcategory of Category:Climate change. Even if they're not merged, very few categories and articles should be in both.
- It may be we need to create a new category Category:Climate change scientists to include him, although the existing Category:Climate change environmentalists is close.
- And I object to "expert" without a reliable source stating that. I don't doubt he's knowledgeable in the field, but I don't think "expert" is appropriate. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 22:16, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Would someone honestly report on what http://www.pnas.org/content/105/6/1786 is about. The 99.* anon is restoring a description when he admits he doesn't know what it means. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 16:18, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
