Death

Why oh why?

Why on earth is there not a page for Hank Green? It's terrible! What is even more insulting is the fact that it links you to his brother instead. I have nothing against John because he's 1.0 of brotherhood 2.0 but it's rather rude to just show that Hank is John's brother. WE WANT A HANK GREEN WIKIPEDIA PAGE!

Call for the Reopening for the Hank Green Page

I believe that there is sufficient notable information on Hank Green to warrant the reopening of his page. I still don't fully understand why, if the information was insufficient, Hank Green's page wasn't simply marked as "stub". The redirection to "John Green (author)" is invaluable to those looking to learn more about Hank Green, because the article only mentions Hank Green in swift passing.

It seems Hank Green's standalone "notability" has also been called into question. First, I will mention his incredibly large following on the video sharing website "YouTube" (which, by the way, is not as isolated a community as some believe). It is unfair to understate the value of his "Project for Awesome" (P4A), which encourages people to spread the word on worthy charities through the internet. This project has encouraged donations to hundreds of charities.

Hank Green is the sole founder of EcoGeek, which (along with its sister companies Carectomy, Envirovore, and Envirowonk) is a large information blog, filled with articles on all things environmentally-friendly. It is "the leading blog on green science and technology", even, according to The Nature Conservancy. EcoGeek has been nominated for a plethora of awards as well. Also, notably, he was a writer for Mental_floss. This is an accomplishment within itself.

These are all things that Hank Green had achieved as of 20 December 2008, and yet, it seems not to be accepted enough to warrant a Wikipedia page (not even a "stub"!), which is, I think, outrageous. Fortunately, he has achieved much more, as of 28 May 2009. So, in addition to the following list:

- Conceiver of the "Project for Awesome", a project dedicated to informing individuals of charities in need of financial support

- Founder, runner, and editor of EcoGeek.com, which has been heralded as the "leading blog on green science and technology"

- Writer for the popular magazine Mental floss

- Co-initiator of the Brotherhood 2.0 Project, which remain among of the most viewed videos of all time on YouTube

- One of several writers for EcoGeek.com

Hank Green has accomplished even more. He has now co-founded a record company, DFTBA Records, which has released his album "So Jokes". "So Jokes" entered the Billboard's Top 20 in February 2009 for Top Revenue Generating albums sold through paid downloads and paid streams. He has been on tour, the Tour de Nerdfighters, and has had several concerts. He was released music videos for his singles "It All Makes Sense At The End" and "DFTBA".

And let's go back to the whole "DFTBA Records" thing for a moment: the record company has signed more than fifteen artists to its label (including Chameleon Circuit, Dave Days, Julia Nunes, Alan Lastufka, Tom Milsom, and Charlie McDonnell). It has its own forum for discussion of its artists (which is more than I can say for many, much more prominent, record companies), a radio show, and a "street team".

So, he's a record producer, singer/songwriter, environmentalist, and vlogger? Well, that seems pretty "notable" to me. --Madithekilljoy (talk) 16:37, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

That is a circular argument. What you miss is that he would have to be a notable record producer, etc. to be himself notable (being Catholic doesn't get one an article, but being the Pope does). Hyacinth (talk) 03:19, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

COI-check

Who are the first comments on this discussion page, by User:JoshuaZ, addressed to? What has changed since the previous deletion? Note that the above arguments to recreate the page do not reference WP:SOURCES or WP:N. In other words, they are baseless assertions without context (someone says, "he's not a notable subject on Wikipedia," and the other person says, "but he seems like a notable subject to me"). Okay, I'm seriously confused. You seem like a respectable wikipedian, which makes this post ... peculiar, to say the least.

Firstly; User:JoshuaZ probably just wanted to notify any admin happening to come across the article and state the outcome of that particular deletion review and what had to be done (redirection and protection). Not sure how that's relevant anymore.

Secondly, what happened since the previous deletion? More sources became available and a deletion review took place. (After deletion, the article couldn't exist again without winning a deletion review.) Not entirely sure, but I think it took a few failed attempts before the deletion review was won and the article was granted. Since then more sources have become available.

Third, there's absolutely no arguing with your comment on all the above discussion; Yes, there's circular reasoning and lots of "facts" without references. But IT DOES NOT MATTER. All those fights were fought and, eventually, won in the deletion review.

And finally, why call COI and then inquire about notability? The only COI's are random fans leaving one-line comments, and they are hardly "notable contributors" to the article. But all these fights were fought a long time ago anyway...

Hey Nerdfighters, I know we all love Hank Green, but please make sure you are using credible information and not just opinions when writing about him. The validity of this article shouldn't suffer due to insufficient links or the use of phrases such as, "Awesomest video blog ever!" Wikipedia isn't really the place for fangirl-ing. Biochemist?

If we're going to call him a biochemist in his lede and his infobox shouldn't there be coverage of significant work in the field or at least involvement? From my understanding an undergraduate degree in biochem does not make a biochemist Cannolis (talk) 01:33, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
