Agree There might have been a time when this term had a distinct meaning when 'Camcorders' were large and bulky and Sony came out with the compact model, but now the small size is ubiquitous and the term has reverted to use as simply a trade name. Synapse001 (talk) 12:21, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sort of agree this article is about a trade name, there are zillons of them. I don't think that the subject is notable. Not sure that the subject deserves a separate section in the Camcorder article, maybe just a short mentioning of it. There are other trade names like ProHD or AVCCAM or CineAlta... do we have to mention all of them? OTOH, a camcorder does not necessarily means a palm-sized camera. Large shoulder-mount camcorders are still camcorders. When merging it should be made clear that a camcorder does not have to be tiny. Mikus (talk) 17:20, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Support There is nothing in Handycam apart from rather obvious factoids (it's "handy"; it's Sony; there are various models; there was an ad). While looking, I noticed List of Sony trademarks which contains a zillion redlinks and I do not think it is Wikipedia's role to document each of Sony's products, unless there is some encyclopedic value (independent references noting the significance of a product). Johnuniq (talk) 02:33, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Strongly Disagree: Handycam is a Sony brand, Camcorder is the type. Would you merge the article on iPod into Portable Media Player, or the article on Cadbury into Chocolate. Then let's have all the other camcorder brands merged into the Camcorder article as well. - xpclientTalk09:26, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
