Lock Maybe?

Leaks have been out and some people will try to edit that showing this. i suggest this gets a lock or semi-lock, because it hasnt been proved yet that the ending is true.

Hasn't been proved? It's using the Halo 3 engine with the same voice actors. I highly doubt they could fake that. 72.198.222.230 12:25, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Could be an intentional leak. Remember when the producers of 24 leaked a video of the end of Season 2, which was the same. Except Palmer stands up, smiles and waves, saying 'I'm fine'. 79.67.47.29 14:59, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Argos a UK retailer has been selling street copies. Anyone found playing a copy of Halo 3 will get banned from Live, that is the statment from Microsoft. Sephiroth898989 15:26, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Actually, that's been changed. Only Microsoft employees found playing it will be banned. Regular gamers won't be banned for playing Halo 3 on Live early. Useight 15:12, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

On September 17, 2007 official copies of Halo 3 were released and sold. Since then it has been distributed via IRC, and torrent sites. This is confirmed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by R3skyline (talkcontribs) 18:11, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Halo 3 Ending Leak

Video of the ending has been leaked; how should the article address that? 72.198.222.230 12:01, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

it shouldn't

Other articles on Wikipedia talk about leaks (music mostly), this is no different.--WhereAmI 01:17, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

No I think that the ending should be kept quiet. It is not like music at all! It has a plot and the plot should remain secret. You would be irritated if the ending of a book was leaked! At least for some time.Inputdata 17:54, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Currently all we have to go by is leaked footage which is not considered a reliable source. When the game comes out we can confirm if the leaked footage is indeed the ending. There could be a mention of the fact that there was a leak, but the content of the leak is unconfirmed. I personally agree with Inputdata that it would ruin it, so I'm not going to watch the video/s. Once the game is released however there will be a "Plot" section which will spoil the ending for anyone who hasn't played it. James086Talk | Email 12:53, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

NEW HALO 3 BLOW OUT ON IGN.COM!!!

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/815/815041p1.html

wow, there is so much info we can add on this article. Duff man2007 21:12, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Quite, I read all the way through it, but not as much as one would think. A case of it says alot without telling us much. There is some useful info there, just alotta waffle around it.The Walkin Dude 20:03, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

you phail, there is plenty of info to add due to that link Duff man2007 04:43, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Not that I see. Peptuck 05:00, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Looks like mostly the same stuff to me 74.245.38.202 02:37, 1 September 2007 (UTC) User:The Shroud

Listing

For the weapons, maps, equipment, etc., you guys should start listing the confirmed ones and put them in a list instead of the little article that only summerizes a couple of tidbits of information. It's only a month away from Sept. 25 and Bungie and alot of other websites (IGN, 1up, etc.) have confirmed a bunch of other stuff. We should start a list soon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.188.113.218 (talk) 22:07, August 24, 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not a list. We already had that, but it was eliminated because it was unencyclopedic. Peptuck 05:01, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
And it was huge. the olde "confirmed elements" section practically took over the whole article. And there are plenty of other sites that will list every weapon and vehicle and map etc. Wikipedia doesn't need to RC Master 13:08, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Then link it, should not be a problem if you have external links to access that information, if not then you got a problem. Ripster40 01:57, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

PC Version

Please don't attack me for asking this (as I'm afraid Xbox fans will do) but what is the current possibility of a PC version being released or done? They have released a PC version for both the original and Halo 2, are they planning to do the same with Halo 3? Just wondering if anyone knew anything about it and therefore it could be added to the article. 72.49.194.69 07:52, 29 August 2007 (UTC) Joshua

There hasn't been any word of a Halo 3 PC as far as I know, but as you said, The previous 2 had PC versions released later so it's likely there will be some day. There is no confirmation by Bungie or Microsoft though so it can't be added to the article. James086Talk | Email 08:51, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
Again if the last 2 were released you can expect the same of this one. BUT, the first one wasn't released until just prior to xbox Halo 2 coming out, and Halo2 PC is just now coming out. I wouldn't just hold out for the PC version if I were you because it will be a while, and it'll be pretty outdated by then for PC standards.157.174.221.169 19:27, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Seems I'll have to wait for it on the PC, though. 72.49.194.69 20:23, 29 August 2007 (UTC) Joshua

Yes, but likely not to long, from what i hear. Deal with it and find a friend with a 360 until it comes out... I want it for PC too The Walkin Dude 00:35, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

It will be a few years before the PC version comes out. MS isn't that dumb since this is one of their biggest system sellers.157.174.221.169 19:28, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Just to clarify, a PC version is not being made as of yet. Bungie have already said they want to get the 360 version out before even considering it. But, since the other two were, you can be fairly certain it will eventually come to PC (ahem, Vista). RC Master 13:11, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

in EGM's latest issue, they gave Halo's AI the "best AI" on the showroom floor

This should be included when talking about the AI in the game. Keep in mind that EGM only does console stuff though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.117.224.11 (talk) 01:49, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Gold

What does 'gone gold' actually mean in terms of video games? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.188.113.218 (talk) 16:05, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Gone gold generally means that it it is certidied Golden master, e.g. it's ready for production then shipment. Gold is he last thing a game is certified before it is released to the people that make all those DVDs, who then pass it on to the store lines and such. The Walkin Dude 17:21, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Just a note to clarify, "gone gold" has nothing to do with sales numbers like it does in the music industry. The master copies of optical discs were traditionally (and sometimes still are) gold colored due to the material they were made from and with no real marketing purpose.157.174.221.168 20:43, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Canadian Money

hey can you guys put the prices of the halo 3 game version in Canadian too. If you do thanks. :)68.145.77.173 23:14, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Legendary only available in ...

I removed the text "The legendary edition is currently only available in North America and Brazil." because it's unsourced and not true. Why Brazil & not UK? Besides, I live in Australia and have pre-ordered the Legendary without any problems. If there's a source listing the places that the Legendary Edition is available, by all means add the info, but make sure it's reliable. James086Talk | Email 23:33, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Havok Engine

In the box in the top right corner of the page, where it says which Game Engine is used, shouldn't the Havok Engine be listed as well as the Halo Engine, since Havok is used for physics calculation?--Roeas 00:36, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure, on some articles it states the game engine they use, including all the various physics engines, on others it doesn't. I don't see why you can't put it there. The Lord Of The Crayons 00:57, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Different Editions Omission

There missing a difference between the editions. Both the Limited and the Legendary editions come with an "HD Calibration Disk". This was briefly noted on the bungie website. This is a Halo 3 themed disk that will help to Calibrate your HDTV to get the best picture. 69.158.17.235 01:52, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Jason M - TO

I could be wrong, but I beleive it is available to everyone with an Xbox Live Silver or Gold membership now. Do some research into it if you want, I'm sure the Bungie forum will be glad to help once they stop posting "phail". Sorry for the rant, but that forum is one of the most immature I've ever been in.--TyGuy92 02:07, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
As far as I know, that tool is on the "Interactive Xbox 360 Disc." So is with the limited and legendary versions. RC Master 12:49, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Well regardless as to whether its on xbox live, it should be mentioned if it also comes on the disc. Since only like 50% (i think it was) of xbox owners are on live, it would be good info for them. Also, 4chans boards are by far and away more immature than Bungies.157.174.221.168 20:36, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

addition to weapons section

it should be noted under the weapons section that the covenant needler can no longer be dual wielded due to a significant power increase.

Okay, go ahead and make the change. You don't need permission to add info to the entry, that's your right. If formatting of grammar is not right, someone will make the change for you until you learn.--TyGuy92 02:30, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, by all means make the edit. But, we don't want to be "game guidey" describing all the changes to every single weapon in the game. The overall statement "with minor power and cosmetic changes" is fine I believe. The needler is still the needler and just has different power. RC Master 12:53, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

when i originally posted this topic here, the page had been locked from editing by some, im guessing that to be those who are not wiki members. so i asked for it to be changed by someone with the power to do it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.126.243.32 (talk) 20:50, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Why are the graphics not much better?

The graphics in this game are disappointing. They have a good replay/cutscene engine but the real gameplay engine looks only slightly better than Halo2.

Halo3 http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/734/734817/img_4818511.html

Halo2 http://media.pc.ign.com/media/804/804393/img_4486727.html

Yes it is a fair comparison even if its the PC version of Halo2 because both are running in high resolution. Seems bungie went lazy on this one and didn't bother to spend the development time to improve the engine to the best of the systems abilities. Like Halo and Halo2, Halo3 is sure to have frame rate issues and even worse when in split screen. Vietone 13:26, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

have either of u guys seen the halo 3 single player thing? i mean, the graphics blew me away. if u say its not better than halo 2, i dont thuink u payed attantion. the betes werent that great, but there u go: BETA Darthblaze99 14:12, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

(facepalm) Haven't you noticed by now that the graphics in multiplayer are not going to be as good as the ones in singleplayer? That's because they matter less in multiplayer than they do in singleplayer, which is where the real shininess is going to go. This: [1] is a far better example of Halo 3's graphics, and that itself may or may not be the final build. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Peptuck (talkcontribs) 15:14, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
If you look carefully, there are vast improvements. Halo 2 had visible polygons, whereas Halo 3's polygons are tiny. There weren't really framerate issues in Halo 1 or 2 unless you made a lot of blood on the ground. Though NTSC may differ from PAL-60 in this case. Still, I don't think there's anything bad about the graphics, sure Halo was never a game with amazing graphics but they aren't bad. James086Talk | Email 08:07, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, the action does (supposedly) take place in much larger areas. And there is more going on and more enemies on screen at once. So theres two reasons. Plus, i believe, a lot of the beauty of the game is in its subtlety. the bloom isn't overdone, the lighting it soft were it needs to be, things that are supposed to be natural look natural. textures convery the surface of an object without getting in your face. Oh, and PCs have FAR more RAM than the 360. So even in H2V, they can have higher res textures in some cases. :Plus, who said there would be framerate issues? All accounts so far point to a very stable framerate in Halo 3. While H1 and H2 had some framerate issues, i've seen games with far worse issues in that regard. Oh, and Halo 3 had a much longer "polish" period at the end of development than halo 2, and certainly longer than H1. All signs seem good.
Besides, the talk page is for the article, until we have some proper commentary (ie reviews) about how much the graphics suck or not, theres no reason to talk about it. RC Master 13:02, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
I agree, this is an article talk page and we should be discussing the article, not the game. I got a bit sidetracked. Please let's keep it on-topic from now. James086Talk | Email 23:52, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
To keep on topic about the article, we should really remove that pic of High Ground or at least mention that the screenshot is from the Beta and NOT the final build and thus not representative of the actual in-game graphics. Bungie has said many times that many graphical settings were turned down or off for the beta. For instance, if someone wishes to dig through their site, they said that there was absolutely not Anti-aliasing in the Beta, and turning that on will help greatly. The purpose of the Beta was to test the gameplay and the online functions, not the graphics engine.157.174.221.168 20:34, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
While, yes, we should be talking about the article and not the game, I wanted to clear this up. Those are UNFINISHED grahpics. HERE are some finished graphics - [2], [3] Look at those and try to tell me they're bad. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.167.120.2 (talk) 00:50, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Because this issue started an edit war and resulted in Duff man2007 being blocked for 3RR violations, and due to his vehement protestations regarding the block on his talk page, I'm copying my reply and explanation to him here, because I'm guessing a lot of the editors involved in this article are fan types who might not be familiar with our ways at Wikipedia, which is an encyclopedia, not a web forum. My comments to Duff man2007 were:
Please read WP:CONSENSUS. The process works like this: you add text. If it's contested, you go and propose it and discuss it on the talk page. You don't add it back in until there is a consensus to do so. Some things that are considered during the discussion: Is the proposed content significant and notable, as we define notability? Is it material worthy of inclusion in an encylopedia (remember, we're not a web forum or chat room)? Is it written in an encyclopedic tone? Does it have sources, and do those sources meet our policies, WP:V and WP:RS? After the discussion and debate, when everyone agrees that the material should be included, then and only then do you add it back in. Doing things the way you did it was a blatant disregard for our ruls, was rude and out of line. The best thing for you to do is apologize, let it go, and move on. In the greater scheme of things, the info you were trying to add simply didn't add substantive content...in other words, in five years, no one's going to care that a beta copy was leaked a couple of weeks before the formal launch - that kind of material just doesn't belong in an encyclopedia; chat room, forum, sure, but encyclopedia, no. AKRadeckiSpeaketh 15:40, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Duff man2007 04:15, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for not writing civily. Please READ the wikilinks we have provided and you will see why it will not be included until it is confirmed and reported by a reliable source. SpigotMap 04:18, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
Confirmation of being on Ebay and being actually leaked are two different things. Its very possible that there is no actual game to sell and the user is only taking peoples money. Until it has been CONFIRMED that it is a real copy of Halo 3, it has no place. Even then it is debateable as simply being fancruft. Please follow Wiki guidelines. Lastly, just because this data was added to other articles does not mean it should have so that is not a valid argument either. Its like thinking you can get out of a speeding ticket by telling the cop that people speed all the time. Oh, and try to be more civil Duffman.157.174.221.169 19:29, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Lol, my friend (currently) has the highest bid. It's not under the name Halo 3 so that it isn't taken down, but the seller emailed him pictures of the contents and screens. I'm not sure if this qualifies as notable, though the French leak of Halo 2 is mentioned in Halo 2. James086Talk | Email 13:21, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Well technically unless the disc was stolen, there are no rules against an idividual buyer reselling it. If these are genuine copies, I'm betting some store sold them early because an employee didn't know the difference. If so, the buyer purchased them legally and can do with them what they please providing it doesn't break copywright law. Reselling it on Ebay is perfectly legal. However, I'll say again, until it is confirmed that it is a real copy and not just a scam or something, it is just speculation and should not be added.157.174.221.167 18:01, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
