Fair use rationale for Image:Odyssey-1.jpg
[edit]Image:Odyssey-1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Questionable Section
[edit]The whole section
"In the United States, the network began as a merger between VISN (the Vision Interfaith Satellite Network), and the ACTS (American Christian Television Station) Network. The combined network initially ran under both names, but was later named the Faith and Values Channel, and originally broadcast religious programming only. More secular programming was started in 1996 when the channel was renamed the Odyssey Channel, using the domain name Odysseyfamily.com for posting TV listings. Hallmark Entertainment and The Jim Henson Company bought stakes in Odyssey in November 1998.After Odyssey Network shut down Henson's half of the channel Hallmark took over. The channel was officially renamed on August 5, 2001"
has no citation and is not even spaced properly. I suggest it's removal unless someone can support it's authenticity. Cactusjump (talk) 22:27, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- Fixed grammar but still needs citation. Cactusjump (talk) 23:06, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Found citations. Cactusjump (talk) 17:34, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
No Citations
[edit]The section entitled "Hallmark Channel USA" has been completely revamped with its focus on the channel's start in religious programming. I added a citations template because none of these assertions have citations or references, short of the one I added about the final name change to Hallmark Channel. I suggest it be reverted immediately unless someone can cite references. Cactusjump (talk) 19:17, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- I've reverted these edits because not only are they unsourced, but they are not about Hallmark Channel, which was officially established on August 5, 2001, which is stated on their own website under Company Milestones. Unless a reliable source can be provided, it should not be in the article. Cactusjump (talk) 16:37, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
- A further note: the version as it stands now still discusses its history but not at such the lengthy description as is being attempted. There's no reason to go on and on about previous channels' histories that then made up Hallmark Channel. Cactusjump (talk) 16:40, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Hallmark Channel (International)
[edit]I separated this into a whole new page, as there was too much confusion between the U.S. Channel and the international ones. The standards, practices, and programming are so completely different, and they are run by completely separate entities.
Since I'm only familiar with the US version, maybe someone can clean up the international page. Thanks. Cactusjump (talk) 18:56, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Corporate jingoism
[edit]I see that this and four other Wikipedia pages use the term "upfront season." I don't think that this is common enough vernacular to be used this way. I can only guess that this is a prettying up of a term referring to the part of the year that isn't reruns. JustaAverageJoe (talk) 22:46, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- Resolved for this article. - Bevo (talk) 13:12, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Censorship
[edit]I'm noticing that Hallmark has silently dropped some of its typical censors, resulting in words like hell, butt and possibly even bitch no longer being dubbed out. This is based on observations after watching several episodes of The Golden Girls, based on the very same episodes that were earlier censored. I'm not sure which exact words aren't being censored anymore, but the current policy is very different from the old one. Maybe we should consider removing the censorship section from the article to reflect this. 98.86.116.2 (talk) 05:12, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
- I've removed it. Not only is it undated and now out of date, but it relied on a single source, which was an obscure blog. The argument was also lacking in credibility: there are plausible ways to critique Hallmark's policies, but calling them "censorship at its worst" (as bad as anything in Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, or Saudi Arabia? Come off it.) is not one of them. 81.99.182.245 (talk) 15:29, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

No longer caters to conservatives or traditional families
[edit]The introduction to the article is now out-of-date and needs to be changed. The Hallmark Channel is no longer family-friendly and has severely caved to the radical LBGT agenda: [1].
