Mixed Translations:

[edit]

The translations for the german terms Bezirk, Stadtteil and Quartier are mixed up here. As the city of Hamburg is a Federal State of Germany, there are similar scructures than in other Federal States. Bezirk (Hamburg Mitte) is similar to Gemeindeverband in other states (below Landkreis (which does not exist in Hamburg) and above Municipality) Stadtteil (Hafencity) is Municipality. Some streets that are planned together get a common name (Quartier) for marketing uses. There exists e.g. the Baakenhafenquartier (see http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baakenhafen ) in the Hafencity. --Tschingbumchiller (talk) 22:45, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have just changed the "Quarter" in the Box to "Locality". Neighborhood may work in English? Stadtteil goes to quarter, which is not quite right. "Quarters" are "Quartiere" or "Viertel". The quarters for HafenCity are: Am Lohsepark · Am Sandtorkai/Dalmannkai · Am Sandtorpark/Grasbrook · Baakenhafen · Elbbrückenquartier · Elbtorquartier · Brooktorkai/Ericus · Oberhafen · Speicherstadt · Strandkai · Überseequartier. see here. --AltSylt (talk) 06:55, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There doesn't seem to be a direct and perfect translation of the Stadtteile term to English. Municipality would imply autonomous governance from the rest of the city, which is not the case. As far as I know, administrative matters in Hamburg are settled in the Bezirk sphere, while Stadttiele deal with services like education.
In this sense, quarter would be the most precise translation and the HafenCity "quarters" cited above would translate to "developments", since they regard mostly marketing and design/building. Alexandre.pereira.santos (talk) 03:34, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
