Independent Page Soon

[edit]

Song page has been replaced by a redirect for too many times by meticulous Wikipedia editor colleagues. Technically this is absolutely right. No official charting until now, so no page was necessary. It lacks notability.... for now at least.... But then this is one steamy video with Rafael Nadal being featured. Music video for "Gypsy". So I do understand the enthusiasm and the rush of some to be part of honouring this song with a Wikipedia page as soon as they heard the song and saw the video. For this esthetically savvy editors, who love Shakira and admire Nadal, mostly anonymous editors though, thanks for your efforts again, and I assure you it is just a matter of time. The song will chart, and the page will return. Meanwhile, we are content with the page remaining a redirect. I mean when we appreciate such utter ravishing beauty and such a gorgeous couple in a ravishing music, what's a couple of weeks of waiting to have acknowledgement from Wikipedia with a separate and very meriting page? werldwayd (talk) 01:21, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chart Positions

[edit]

It's uneccessary to have the subtitle "Gitana" under the names of each chart. If "Whenever, Wherever"'s chart positions don't say "Suerte", then neither should "Gypsy"'s. Stopitplease92 (talk) 16:59, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, per WP:record charts is is a new policy to demonstrate different versions of the song.Lil-unique1 (talk) 17:05, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking of the charts, is Gypsy still at 65 on the US Billboard charts, or has it just not been updated? Or has it fallen lower? Rcr18 (talk) 17:47, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request

General
Really? The server doesn't show up any dablinks for me. It only mentions that Gitana redirects to Gypsy.
It did when I checked.  — aron 14:31, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
 Fixed --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 14:51, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Info box
  • If it was released in Spain first, then why not list as such?
  • Genres should be alphabetical
 Done both in some sense.--WonderBoy1998 (talk) 14:51, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Lead
Even I found that strange. The release history of the song is really confusing and all the sources I could find proved that the Gitana was released before Gypsy. This can be true in the sense that Gitana was released earlier as a single than Gypsy; Gypsy had been on the tracklist of She Wolf way before its release as a single, while Gitana debuted for the first time as a single only. --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 15:23, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, why have you worded it like that then? Lol. You start off with what came first.  — aron 17:17, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Uhm..but Gypsy was the original, Gitana is just a traslation. The music video, which is considered to be the song's most known aspect due to Nadal's appearance got released in Feb and that's when it start selling. CD single came afterwards. --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 12:52, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • The song was issued → "issued" ?? Strange word choice.
  • complimented its vibe → Vibe is the wrong word for an Encyclopaedia
  • Put US before Billboard
  • Put chart after Hot Latin Songs
  • For additional promotion, → Remove
  • Shakira appeared on a number of television shows and concerts to promote the song. → Such as?
 Done All --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 15:01, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Background and composition
  • After the release of "Give It Up to Me", "Gypsy" was serviced as the next single from Shakira's studio album She Wolf, and is the fourth single off the album overall. → "Gypsy" was released as the fourth and final single from Shakira's sixth studio album, She Wolf (2009).
 Done
  • I can't see anywhere saying that is a world or folk song...
Well it is features Middle Eastern and Indian music so I think it's best categorized World, if not folk. --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 14:51, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
World and folk aren't sourced though. You should put Middle Eastern and Indian music  — aron 17:17, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure? I thought songs which touch upon international genres are classified into world. So I don't think we need a source for that. Here's the WP definition of world music- World music is a musical category encompassing many different styles of music from around the world, including traditional music, quasi-traditional music, and music where more than one cultural tradition intermingle. World music's inclusive nature and elasticity as a musical category pose obstacles to a universal definition, but its ethic of interest in the culturally exotic is encapsulated in fRoots magazine's description of the genre as "local music from out there" --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 12:52, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, yeah. You have to put what the critics say, not what your interpret it to be.  — aron 13:52, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I found a review which labels it as acoustic and world music. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/chartblog/2010/04/shakira_gypsy.shtml --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 14:29, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Critical response
  • I just feel like I'm reading quotes only. It needs some of your own phrasing.
 Done --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 15:02, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Commercial performance
  • You need to put US before the Hot 100, as not everyone will know that the Hot 100 is a US chart.
  • I don't know why Chart is linked and capitalised either?
  • Why not just say Spanish Singles Chart instead of the glaring capitalised PROMUSICAE?
Funny, I don't even remember putting that PROMUSICAE there, I usually use singles chart and all. In fact this whole section seems alien to me now. --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 15:02, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
 Done all --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 15:02, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Live performances
  • You don't need title track and "She Wolf". One or the other.
 Done --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 15:02, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Charts and certifications
  • The chart column needs the same shading as the certification table
They seem the same for me? --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 15:02, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
They are different. The certifications has the mark up for it.  — aron 15:17, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I really can't get this? Can you do this for me? --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 15:21, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ah you've used the preloaded templates. That's why they are different. I will do it.  — aron 15:23, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Refs
  • iTunes, MTV, BBC, Digital Spy and AllMusic should not be in italics, so all need to be changed.
  • iTunes publisher is Apple
 Done all.
