Another Guichon Creek (or two)

[edit]

I wound up here after linking this in Nicola (chief) as there is a creek in the Nicola Country where there had been a settlement of Thompsons and Stu'wix where Nicola had buried the dead of that settlement, who had been slaughtered by raideres from the Shuswap (probably the Adams Lake Band, I'd have to check). The Guichon Bros, for whom the creek is named, were important settlers from France who founded the Guichon Ranch at Quilchena Lake; ("Guichon Creek". BC Geographical Names. and also "Guichon, Mount". BC Geographical Names.) I was about to do an article on that creek, at least as a stub, then found this....now I'm not sure what to dab it as - Guichon Creek (Nicola Country) or Guichon Creek (British Columbia) or Guichon Creek (Thompson Plateau) or what; there's another Guichon Creek in the Chilcotin ("Guichon Creek". BC Geographical Names.), so if Guichon Creek (Chilcotin) would apply, if there's any reason to make that article, maybe simply Guichon Creek (Nicola) would do, as "(the) Nicola" is a colloquial shorthand for "Nicola Country". Don't know the name origin of the one in the Chilcotin, though, or any history attached to it. In this case the notes of teh Heritage Committee would appear to be the cite, though we don't have proper publication data for it; it's not in BCGNIS, though....Skookum1 (talk) 15:38, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Rivers dabs guidelines would use the parent stream, e.g. Guichon Creek (Still Creek), Guichon Creek (Nicola River), Guichon Creek (Chilcotin River), and given that of the Nicola and Burnaby one there's no clear winner on "more notable" there should probably be a dab page at this location. Thoughts?Skookum1 (talk) 15:42, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
NB there is a Port Guichon in Delta, named for the same folks the Burnaby creek is named for; also a Port Guichon Elementary School - "Port Guichon". BC Geographical Names.Skookum1 (talk) 15:46, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'd support using the parent stream for all of these and turning this page into a disambig. Kmusser (talk) 16:57, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I second that - use the parent stream as the dab. --Bermicourt (talk) 17:54, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Guichon Creek a tributary to the Dean River near Anahim Lake.

[edit]

When I was a teenager, our ranch was on Guichon Creek. It originated up above Dick Wright's ranch, came down though ours (near Morrison Meadow), then ran down past Guichon Draw, and along Christensen Cabin Flats and finally emptied into the Dean River upstream from the community of Anahim Lake. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.129.174.9 (talk) 01:04, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
