Public transportation
[edit]Contra this article, Guatemala has an efficient public transportation system. It just isn't controlled by the government. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nicmart (talk • contribs) 17:51, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- """Efficient""" hardly qualifies it. I've ridden the busses there, soy guatemalteco. They are never on time, though that is relative because there are no schedules so you can't judge them. The buses are filthy, and prone to muggings. And the government does control the transport system because it hands out 1 franchize to 1 private company which thus has an absolute monoploy on a given bus line. The bus drivers are rude, and disrespectfull, they stop whereever they feel like it, and if a bus is running you're way, you move or get crunched.
- Because the lines are badly designed and the rising gas prises poor people have to expend a considerable amount of their already meager salaries on transportation from their far away homes to their work places.
- Mass transportation systems don't exist for a number of reasons: 1) the territory is prone to earthquakes so you can't build a metro, 2) the city is a solid block of concreate with no public lands on which to bulid a rail system, 3) everybody who can aford it buys a car, 4) there are no waterways.

Crime
[edit]Someone needs to mention the crime in this town. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.193.72.54 (talk) 14:59, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- - I agree with the above. mjuarez (talk) 15:19, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Population
[edit]Where did the population figures come from? Most sources seem to record it as around 1 million. Ygoloxelfer 10:10, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
The population isn't 7 million for this city! someone get it straight please. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.67.131.216 (talk) 17:40, 23 February 2009
Sinkhole
[edit]I believe this incident (giant sinkhole in city) should be covered. Kaivosukeltaja 11:26, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Guatemala city.JPG
[edit]Image:Guatemala city.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Largest City in Central America and the Carribean?
[edit]Please verify? Im not sure I saw a source there? Might have been just me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mbhskid520 (talk • contribs) 01:49, 28 November 2009
- I agree and I see Havana has over 2 million people so I'm removing the reference to the Caribbean. 24.142.30.214 (talk) 07:34, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
The Metro area has over 3 and a half million people. Good enough? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rtyb (talk • contribs) 15:09, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
2010 sinkhole picture
[edit]It may seem out of place because there are no pictures on the article for the 2007 sinkhole or the other natural disasters but if there are any pictures we can use for the 2010 sinkhole it would probably be a nice addition to the article especially since that is probably what a lot of people to this article recently are here to read about since that's the most recent news item about Guatemala City. 24.177.8.105 (talk) 03:04, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Climate
[edit]I highly recommend Insivumeh's page when it comes to Climate: http://www.insivumeh.gob.gt/meteorologia/mapa_estaciones.htm
Just use that, and subtract any given temperature by one, since temperatures are actually decreasing. Or as you will. You could use this in all pages related to a Guatemalan City. I've noticed Xela doesn't even have a GOOD Climate section. I'm from Guatemala, so i can verify that the data is truth. Besides, it's INSIVUMEH, they can't be wrong...Can they? (Instituto Nacional de Sismologia, Vulcanologia, Meteorologia, e Hidrologia.) INSIVUMEH.

The climate seems tropical to me rather than subtropical highland since the mean temperature of every month is still above 64.0 F, which is the criteria used for a tropical climate. Obviously, the elevation causes it to have some differences with tropical climates at sea level or closer to it, but it still wouldn't qualify as subtropical highland because of the aforementioned criteria. Population error
[edit]Something is badly wrong with the population figures in the infobox. Looks as though the decimal point is two places out. Tigerboy1966 09:23, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
zone 10 info
[edit]The article had additional information (a mere 3 sentences) for Zone 10 hiding at its very end. It was entirely out of place there, and no-one browsing the "Places of interest by zones" section in the middle of the article would ever have stumbled upon it. I have no knowledge on the subject, and therefore no 'authority' to evaluate (and perhaps remove) that additional information; so I simply moved it to the beginning of the "Zone 10" subsection of the "Places of interest by zones" section.
Maybe someone else can re-check that new 'conglomerate' I created and decide whether to slim it down or not. Otto von B (talk) 02:08, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
Crime
[edit]The article makes no mention of crime in the city, which seems to be rampant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.96.186.102 (talk) 01:14, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
Name of the City
[edit]What is the name of the city? In the article we have "La Nueva Guatemala de la Asunción" as the "full name" and "Ciudad de Guatemala" in the official name field. Please provide a reference. Nearwater (talk) 10:56, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
What is missing from the city timeline? Please add relevant content. Thank you. -- M2545 (talk) 11:37, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Split to new History article
[edit]Material from Guatemala City was split to History of Guatemala City on 30 January 2017 from this version. The former page's history now serves to provide attribution for that content in the latter page, and it must not be deleted so long as the latter page exists. Please leave this template in place to link the article histories and preserve this attribution. |
Guatemala City Mint
[edit]The mint isn't mentioned. Is there some sense of why the mint mark changed from "G" for 1773-76 to "NG" from 1779 onward? Numista shows this NG as referring to "Nueva Granada" but Nueva Granada isn't listed as the name of the city anyplace in this article and in fact refers to a large region elsewhere in Central America. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.34.158.240 (talk) 01:40, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
Edits by Tar 2 Tarr
[edit]Hi, Tar 2 Tarr. Welcome to Wikipedia! What do you think is wrong with the source and what source are you talking about? Thinker78 (talk) 21:34, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
Hi Thinker78, I saw the template:-
This article needs additional citations for verification. (September 2018) |
which said "This article needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources.". That was what I was talking about, I was just trying toward fixing the issue by adding citations to reliable sources.
Cheers, Tar 2 Tarr (talk) 14:19, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
- Ah! Tar 2 Tarr thank you for your collaboration! But why didn't you accept my explanation when I reverted your edit and posted the citation again? I reverted your citation because I was having in mind a policy that says in the lead section citations are not necessary if they reflect info from the body of the article (MOS:LEAD). Cheers!--Thinker78 (talk) 23:54, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
Hi Thinker78, Ops, sorry! I didn't know that, thanks for pointing it out! Tar 2 Tarr (talk) 23:12, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

City Outline Map
[edit]The map outlining the city isn't accurate, it's outlinning the whole Guatemala department not the city. Can someone fix? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.14.142.66 (talk) 20:48, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
Twin cities likely error
[edit]The page mentions Guatemala being twinned with Beijing, China, when Guatemala does not formally recognize the People's Republic of China. Further revision is needed YeOldeDerpyface (talk) 08:31, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
