Guiding

[edit]

This article has a bare mention of Guiding. Is it part of Grønlands Spejderkorps or a separate organization? --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 20:19, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Coed org, per memberships. Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 14:57, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

grammar

[edit]

@Kintetsubuffalo: Most names of countries, Greenland included, are proper nouns that do not need an article. Hence it is wrong to say *the Greenland's National Council; it's just Greenland's National Council (English would prefer an of-construction, but that's not really an option here). In the other cases, definiteness is already indicated by inflection, so inserting a whimsical the is like saying *the Folketinget, which is nonsense; it's either Folketinget or the Folketing. Please don't be arrogant.__Gamren (talk) 12:06, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Gamren: I've been here for 11 years, you've been here (really actively) for 2 weeks. I would be careful of accusing others of arrogance if I were you. Neither Folketinget and Folketing have any meaning in English, so native English speakers (which I am and which you are not) would put a "the" in front of both of them, as being unfamiliar with Danish syntax, whereas if it were French, Spanish or German, we would generally remove the Le, El or Die and cut right to the topic, unless it was something famous like Le Morte d'Arthur, El Greco, Die Fledermaus... Since you didn't use any examples from the actual article, I will pretend I give a fuck about Danish (I don't, but I do like fighting pretentious grammar Nazis). Since I'm guessing that the -et ending is what has your panties in a wad, you could pipe it this way "the [[Fællesrådet for Danmarks Drengespejdere|Fællesråd for Danmarks Drengespejdere]]". I don't know if that's correct Danish and I don't care. In summation, the "the"s stay in English, even if it makes no sense in Danish, this being the English Wikipedia after all.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 12:29, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And I, in turn, will disregard your gratuitously inflammatory and condescending rhetoric. Since you obviously know everything worth knowing, I will leave this matter in your capable hands.__Gamren (talk) 13:43, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
