- @Another Believer: I would also suggest looking for further sources on the song's use in RuPaul's Drag Race as it has gained some notoriety from there. Aoba47 (talk) 23:19, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Aoba47: Yes, the performance received a lot of coverage, but I figured a source or two is enough to confirm the song's use. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:20, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
- Makes sense to me. Thank you for the response. Aoba47 (talk) 23:21, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
Requested move 1 April 2019
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. The result of the move request was: Consensus to move. Editors who don't feel the article should exist can take it to AfD. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:54, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
Greedy (Ariana Grande song) → Greedy (song) – The Greedy (song) title currently redirects to the Ariana Grande album. I do not see a reason for the disambiguation since a simpler title already exists as a redirect and is about the same subject matter. Aoba47 (talk) 21:54, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
- Merge to album how is a 113-charting song notable? In ictu oculi (talk) 23:13, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
- Any song can be notable if it is covered by enough reliable, third-party sources. Charting is just one part of notability. Aoba47 (talk) 01:46, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- This page was nominated for deletion on 5 March 2017. The result of the discussion was redirect. If we're now accepting an identical re-creation those in the AfD need to be informed. @Czar: @Aoba47: @MarioSoulTruthFan: @LikeGaga: In ictu oculi (talk) 08:17, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- No prejudice against reholding that discussion, but this is a move request, not AfD. PC78 (talk) 10:24, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- I do not have an issue with that discussion (not here though as it is only a move request). I only made the above comment as a more general note about song notability not being solely judged by chart performance. I have not looked into the notability of this particular one. I honestly was not aware of that issue when I opened the move request. I just noticed that there were two Greedy articles about the same song and thought it was strange. - Support move. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:39, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hmmm... I was going to say "support", but I note that a previous version of this article existed at Greedy (song) and was redirected at AfD two years ago. This version of the article does not look substantially different to my eyes and may have been created as an attempt to bypass that outcome. However, since the two pages have significant non-overlapping history I think the best solution would be a history merge, which I have requested at WP:SPLICE. PC78 (talk) 23:58, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
- Technically, this page was created first (by me as a redirect). I'm not sure if the histories should be merged, or just swapped so that the current article takes over Greedy (song). I don't feel strongly either way, but do think Grande's name is not needed as a disambiguator. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:08, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- It's essentially the same article on either page, so a merged history at the preferred title would be the ideal solution. Unless that was technically impossible (which I don't think is the case) then there is no advantage to keeping them separate. PC78 (talk) 00:26, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- The histories have been merged. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:59, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- Then it's a clear support for the proposed move per the established concensus at WP:SONGDAB, as there are no other song articles using this title. PC78 (talk) 10:21, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

- Oppose per WP:INCDAB and redirect Greedy (song) to Greedy#Music, as other songs covered on Wikipedia are listed there. -- Netoholic @ 00:17, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- Other songs which do not have articles; please see WP:SONGDAB. PC78 (talk) 00:26, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- Does not matter. SONGDAB goes against general practice with regards to WP:INCDAB and should be re-written with that in mind. -- Netoholic @ 00:35, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- That's debatable at best. Per WP:DAB a title is ambiguous if "it refers to more than one subject covered by Wikipedia" (my emphasis). It makes no provision for articles that do not exist. PC78 (talk) 00:45, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- The end of that line is "
a subtopic covered by an article in addition to the article's main topic
", so covered includes those topics which do not have standalone articles, but are subtopics of another article, such as when a song is covered as part of an album track listing or an artist discography article. -- Netoholic @ 01:05, 2 April 2019 (UTC)- Please. A song title in a tracklisting does not remotely constitute a "subtopic", or even "coverage". It is a mere mention. If that's your argument it's rather flimsy. PC78 (talk) 01:22, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

- Support. I have my concerns about the song's notability, but the proposed title seems appropriate. Nohomersryan (talk) 20:15, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- Support. However, there are a lot more articles like this on wikipedia and those should also be re-directed. A revision of WP: Songs is mandatory at this point because any song from a big artist can debut in any chart with streaming being added, for instance and some go all the way to get certified. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 20:00, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- Support. Basically what happened here is that the original version of the article, at the target title, got redirected to the album by an AFD discussion because the article as it existed at that time didn't really demonstrate the song's notability at all — and then the version with the overdisambiguated title got recreated at a later date, either as a deliberate detour around the original AFD result or as an honest mistake by somebody who just didn't know how to get to the redirect to edit it. That said, being officially released as a single is not a core condition of notability for a song, and its below-100 chart position in the UK isn't the trump card that overrules its higher chart positions anywhere else — ultimately, the only notability criterion a song actually has to clear is that it's the subject of enough reliable source coverage to write more than just "Sing a Song is a song that exists, the end". Songs that don't chart at all sometimes still pass the actual notability test anyway, and songs that did chart sometimes don't — chart positions don't override sources. I mean, gawd, I'm like the opposite of an Ariana Grande fan — nothing against her, I'm just way too old for her genre — and even I still know this song just on title alone. Greedy (song) → Greedy (Ariana Grande song) – There is another article about a song with the same title ("Greedy" (Tate McRae song)), and I do not believe this one is the primary topic. Greedy (song) should be made as redirect to Greedy (disambiguation)#Music. I was not sure if this would be a controversial move or not, and I always think an open discussion is the best way anyway. Aoba47 (talk) 23:53, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
- Support per WP:SONGDAB. 162 etc. (talk) 00:44, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- Support - Indeed, the McRae song is a much bigger hit. I would put this move in the uncontroversial category.—NØ 00:57, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nomination, 162 etc. and NØ. Greedy (song) is incomplete disambiguation and should indeed redirect to the Greedy#Music dab page. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 01:22, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- Support the Tate McRae song though only from last month has 27,580 views compared with only 984[[1]] for the Ariana Grande song. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:27, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
