There is an error in the "early life" section. Xhaka's father did not participate in the 1968 student protests. So, that sentence and link need to be removed. He either participated in the 1981 protests in Kosovo or, per this profile (linked in note 12), in 1986 protests, for which there is no wiki entry. 173.66.223.23 (talk) 19:44, 23 June 2018 (UTC)
- Done The date has been changed to 1986 per the already supplied reference in the article, which gives that as the year of the protest, as well as the fact that the university mentioned did not open until 1969. spintendo 05:34, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

I removed the entire section. Contentious material about a living person that is poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion. Please read the biography of living persons policy for more details. Please do not re-add the information unless you can provide a reputable third-party source. Thanks. - Removed again. @Ian 1975:, please discuss before restoring this content. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:50, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
- There is absolutely nothing contentious about the fact that the English Football Association has launched an investigation into this. I posted just three of the multiple sources available.
- If you still do not believe that such action has taken place kindly provide sources. Ian 1975 (talk) 11:31, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Ian 1975: There's no point in citing multiple sources when they're all repeating information from WP:DAILYMAIL and WP:THESUN. While it may very well be true that the yellow card is being investigated, the sourcing is poor (and will be poor until a more reliable source reports on the incident) and the edit said "Xhaka was under investigation" when the cited sources were careful to point out that Xhaka himself was not under investigation. Please actually read the sources before you use them to cite. Adeletron 3030 (talk • edits) 14:17, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
- Are the Times a good enough source for your liking? Ian 1975 (talk) 16:50, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
- Sure, though I don't see the need to also tack on the other low-quality sources if you have a reputable source. A few other issues:
- Unfortunately, the Times article is behind the paywall so I can't use it to verify the content, but as far as I can tell, Granit Xhaka was placed under investigation is incorrect - the betting pattern, not the player, was investigated. Did the Times article say Xhaka himself was investigated?
- Without a reliable source to verify, mentioning "Albanian mafia" in the first sentence seems reckless and sensationalist.
- "It is understood..." in the next sentence should be avoided because it's unclear who understands this. If the Times (?) won't describe how it came to understanding that information, then it shouldn't be included in this article.
- What's with the phrasing, "Late in a match on a particular player being booked. That player was then shown a yellow card"? Why are we being intentionally vague when we know which match and which player we're talking about.
- More than any of these issues, this is all WP:UNDUE. The player isn't investigated. We don't need a whole section with the POV term "controversy" when the incident is barely controversial enough to get one non-tabloid source to report it. If we have to mention it, just put it in the 2021-22 season section and talk about how the NCA detected a suspicious betting pattern leading up to the yellow card.
