Nomenclature

[edit]

The first sentence of the “Nomenclature” section states: “Article 21 of the ICNCP stipulates that a graft-chimaera …”. In the eighth edition (2009) Article 21 was renumbered to Article 24: Names of Graft-Chimeras. This change remains in the ninth edition.

Within the “Nomenclature” section, the cultivar epithet is referred to for only intrageneric graft-chimaeras. The cultivar epithet should also be included for intergeneric graft-chimaeras, if only to avoid the implication that it does not apply to these.

The last paragraph of the “Nomenclature” section states: “A graft-chimaera cannot have a species name, because it is simultaneously two species”. The two clauses are independently true, but the link, implied by “because”, needs explanation. Although, as an analogy, an intergeneric graft-chimaera can have a genus name, e.g. +Crataegomespilus, even though it is simultaneously two genera. Maidenhair (talk) 10:35, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
