[edit]@Kowal2701 here's the information I could find on Ghiyaru/Goundiourou. Catjacket (talk) 21:28, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Wow! Great work. Do you have a rough date for its large degree of independence so it can be added to List of kingdoms and empires in African history? Kowal2701 (talk) 21:43, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- I don't. It was during the time when Diarra controlled the area and before the Tarikh el Fattash was written, but that was centuries. Probably it was self-governing more or less the entire time. It doesn't seem that it was actually independent though. It was a religious enclave within Diarra similar to Touba in Senegal today, with a special legal status but not sovereignty. So I don't think it needs to be added to that article. Catjacket (talk) 22:22, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Are you mainly interested in Mande west Africa? The west africa sections I've done for History of Africa and Draft:Medieval Africa and Draft:Postclassical Africa are quite poor, could do with some work if you're interested. I tried to make it general history rather than an amalgamation of isolated info on each state. Might move the Hausa to the central Sahel section Kowal2701 (talk) 22:40, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not only Mande, West Africa in general, especially Francophone areas which IMO get less love on English Wikipedia.
- I can take a look at the link you provided. Anything in particular that you're looking to improve or add to? I do think Hausa makes more sense in the central Sahel, as they were extensively tied to the states like Air to the north and Kanem to the east. Catjacket (talk) 08:10, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- It’s missing loads of citations and could probably do with rewriting in parts, a lot of it is WP:Circular copied from within Wikipedia so might be dubious.
- There’s also the Congo sections which I had to rely almost solely on Thornton rather than Congolese histories which were in French, and I’d rather the narratives in the native histories were prioritised Kowal2701 (talk) 08:26, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- If you can point me to some of the French sources on Congo I'd be happy to integrate them. Catjacket (talk) 10:41, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- This might be good, and these by Theophile Obenga [1] (might be good for the postclassical section) [2] Kowal2701 (talk) 11:11, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
