Portrait
[edit]The portrait picture is maybe worst picture ever. It's kind of "Hi, this guy is dirty gnu hippey and drug addict." There should definetly be better picture or no picture. --Zache 08:42, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Of course not. That is a free image and it is very suitable for the article until a better one is found. That is not a reason for its removal.---- 41.232.96.243 (talk) 17:14, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
I think the picture is ok, it appears that this is just the way he looks (not sure if you could get a "better" picture). Your comment is really about your own prejudice - the way you think "dirty gnu hippies" and drug addicts look. --SasiSasi (talk) 11:36, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- He seems to always be looking like this in all pictures... I suppose he just is some kind of GNU nerd guy... Lord Metroid (talk) 16:17, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- I disagree. Gnus have horns. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.162.31.134 (talk • contribs) at 14:07, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
- We're getting dangerously offtopic here, but.. that's a sick goatee thingy. 98.164.228.143 (talk) 22:51, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

I've seen other pictures of him and that is by far the most flattering.84.249.104.18 (talk) 20:55, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
He looked alright in TPB AFK; could have brushed his teeth maybe but that could be the source of his intellect. His body is a puppet for the self aware hive mind of the plaque! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.129.119.171 (talk) 18:42, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
Charges/political activism
[edit]119.82.248.67 deleted "In addition, Svartholm was charged for drugs crime (Swedish: narkotikabrott) and the "law on prohibition of certain health-threatening goods" (Swedish: lagen om förbud mot vissa hälsofarliga varor) relating to cannabis, amphetamines and salvia divinorum (not classified as a drug) in his apartment. Svartholm said that it was not his drugs and that other people lived in his apartment at the time" from this article, which is fine: personally, I can't see the charges, without any kind of verdict, as relevant (whereas the Pirate Bay trial is a pretty public and thus relevant affair). However, "Relevance: What has the drug charges to do with anakata's political activism?" seems lika a bad motivation: that part of the article wasn't about political activism. It was about criminal charges. That doesn't per definition transfer to political activism, no matter how one believes the law should be (or in this case, is) written. (One could just as easily argue that the drugs in question shouldn't be illegal either, for example.) --Julle (talk) 07:12, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Selling internet drugs
[edit]I can't be arsed to dig up the articles right now, but it is common knowledge that Svartholm owns several internet 'medicine' sites that sell recreational drugs such as GBL etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.216.141.251 (talk) 13:23, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Pretty sure that was just bull, TPB offers people to register their domains in anakatas name, which is what happened here. No sources though, sorry. 85.225.145.111 (talk) 01:22, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
US$60 Million "donation" to Cambodia
[edit]I've removed an unsourced claim from a single-edit anon that Cambodia was paid by Sweden shortly after the arrest. If true, it's obviously a critical part of the story. Please restore it with an appropriate reference if possible. — JEREMY 02:02, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

was he in jail?
[edit]Sorry I'm not too good in English. Did he served in prison? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.2.96.119 (talk) 02:25, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
- Supposedly he is in jail right now, yes. --Echosmoke (talk) 21:40, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
- This article is woefully out of date. Even the appeals court verdict is missing.
Confusing section
[edit]As of early June 2013 Warg was named as a suspect in a Danish case, where millions of personal identification numbers were stolen from a police database. Danish police have asked that Warg be extradited from Sweden, so that he can be tried in Denmark.[17] It was later confirmed that Svartholm would be extradited to Denmark, to undergo a similar trial to Sweden, the timing of which is dependent on the outcome in Sweden. On 20 June 2013, Gottfrid was found guilty of hacking and sentenced to two years in prison. Note that the 20 June 2013 sentence is NOT related to Denmark and the PIN theft from the police database in DK, but what he did at Logica, which is a Swedish tax office! Or am I the only one to think that the text can easily be misunderstood that the 20 June 2013 sentence was actually for data theft he committed on Danish computer systems? -andy 77.7.114.90 (talk) 23:34, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
What is the proper Wikipedia / Swedish way to refer to him by name
[edit]I see three different ways of referring to him in this one passage:
- Danish police have asked that Warg be extradited from Sweden, so that he can be tried in Denmark.[18] It was later confirmed that Svartholm would be extradited to Denmark, to undergo a similar trial to Sweden, the timing of which is dependent on the outcome in Sweden.[19] On 20 June 2013, Gottfrid was found guilty of hacking and sentenced to two years in prison.[20]
I find this confusing. Would it not be better to refer to him as "Svartholm" throughout? I don't understand how Swedish names work, nor am I an expert on Wikipedia editorial policy. --Bobagem (talk) 15:43, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
Quora asks "How many years will Gottfrid Svartholm be in jail?"
[edit]How many years will Gottfrid Svartholm be in jail?
My answer there:
Between 2 and 6 according to two sources from wikipedia article about him. But I believe 6 is more exact. Stay tuned, you'll know the right answer before 2019.

Timeline
[edit]The text says: "On 27 November 2013 he was extradited to Denmark, where he was charged ..." and then "After spending three years in different prisons from Sweden and Denmark, he was eventually released on 29 September 2015"
How did he manage to spend 3 years in prison in a less than 2 years long time period? 2A00:5500:6000:5247:3CFA:43E9:4EA0:4 (talk) 15:01, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- He was in prison in Sweden prior to the extradition to Denmark and some time after his arrest in Cambodia on 30 August 2012. D1551D3N7 (talk) 21:19, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
