Hi! I love this song, so I will review this article. Basilisk4u (talk) 00:19, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notes

[edit]
Lead
  • "'Gorgeous' is a Hip-hop song by recording artist Kanye West..." hip hop doesn't need to be capitalized
     Done Mordecairule 16:26, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Too many uses of "the song" in the lead, try "Gorgeous" or "the track"
     Done Mordecairule 16:26, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
  • "You Showed Me" should be in quotes
     Done Mordecairule 16:26, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
  • "The song received positive reviews from music critics, with praise given to Kanye's lyricism and the production." "..music critics, who praised West's lyricism and the production."
     Done Mordecairule 16:26, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
  • "Gorgeous" in the first sentence of the second paragraph should be in quotes, not italics
     Done Mordecairule 16:26, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Billboard should be in italics
     Done Mordecairule 16:26, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
  • There are lots of citations in the lead, these are not needed if they are backed up in the article's body
     Done Bruce Campbell (talk) 06:00, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Background
  • "acclaimed member of the Wu-Tang Clan" This sounds a bit biased, just say "Raekwon, of the Wu-Tang Clan..."
     Done Mordecairule 16:26, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Composition and lyrics
  • In the description of the music sample, it says "A 30 second sample of "Gorgeous" which features Kanye West rapping out various social issues, with a notable guitar riff notable in the background." It should be "rapping about", and the second use of "notable" should be removed. Also, there is no source for him rapping about "social issues"
     Done Bruce Campbell (talk) 06:00, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Reception
  • "Gorgeous has received positive reviews from music critics, and was considered as a highlight of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy with extra praise given to the lyrics." "Gorgeous" should be in quotes, while My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy should be in italics. Also, the "extra praise given to the lyrics" sounds a bit strange, consider rewording this.
     Done Mordecairule 16:26, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Overall, this is a well done article. It just needs a few corrections before it can be passed. Good work and sorry for the long wait for the review! Basilisk4u (talk) 17:28, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry for being late to the party on my own GA nomination, but no one ever informed me about the review, otherwise I would have been the one to personally address the issues. I am very grateful towards Mordecairule for his help here though, I appreciate the assistance. I've corrected the remaining things and I believe the article now adheres to the reviewers standards. Bruce Campbell (talk) 06:00, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The issues were addressed, but since the reviewer's disappeared, I'll step in and pass the article. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 17:12, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Kind of snowy: this article is just too long to merge into the album article. | abequinnfourteen 18:14, 26 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I propose to merge "Gorgeous (Kanye West song)" into My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. I think that the content in the "Gorgeous" article can easily be explained in the context of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy article despite being a GA is of a reasonable size and the merging will not cause any problems. It blows my mind how this is a GA in fact, as it does not comply with the WPN:Songs.

1) Has been ranked on national or significant music or sales charts. (Note again that this indicates only that a song may be notable, not that it is notable.) - these are not signifcant 2)Has won one or more significant awards or honors, such as a Grammy, Juno, Mercury, Choice or Grammis award. - No 3)Has been independently released as a recording by several notable artists, bands, or groups. - No

There is only oen source, Complex, covering it as Rap Radar only talks about a live performance the rest of its reception is taken from the album, not good enough for a stand alone article. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 19:21, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • No - You are getting carried away with this cause ([1], [2]) and missing the point of summary style in Wikipedia articles: "Essentially, it is generally acceptable to have different levels of detail of a subject in different articles, provided that each provides a balanced view of the subject matter." (WP:SPINOFF) You are also missing the point of Wikipedia:Notability (music), whose criteria is meant as a "rule of thumb", and to "please note that the failure to meet any of these criteria does not mean an article must be deleted. You have merely cited "factors" that "may" suggest notability, but glossed over the criteria that a standalone article "should satisfy": Per WP:NSONG, "Songs and singles are probably notable if they have been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works whose sources are independent of the artist and label. … Notability aside, a standalone article is appropriate only when there is enough material to warrant a reasonably detailed article; articles unlikely ever to grow beyond stubs should be merged to articles about an artist or album." There is coverage of the song beyond its mention in album reviews, including its recording, individual commercial performance, and appearance in marketing efforts. This article clearly is appropriate under the aforementioned criteria. isento (talk) 20:27, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • No - per isento's reasoning. mike•owen discuss 12:34, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • No – per isento. – zmbro (talk) 17:43, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You are saying this couldn't be merged into MBDTF when it could, this is not about the amount of information it never was, it is about being notable as a stand alone article. Commercial performance means nothing. It says that it may be notable, not that is notable. Bubbling Under and Digital Sales Songs are component charts. Recording that is dubious as it contains interviews with feature guests and producers, doesn't stike me as "independent sources". MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 18:37, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
