Gordon Sumner (footballer) → Gordon Sumner – Gordon Sumner is currently a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to Sting (musician), whose real name is Gordon Sumner. Despite this, I don't see why he should be the primary redirect target, greater worldwide fame notwithstanding. Someone's professional moniker should take far more precedence over a birth name that does not pass WP:COMMONNAME, hence why this should have "(footballer)" removed from the title, with a hatnote at the top to assist those looking for Sting. Oppose The musician gets 1000x as many views as the footballer. Even it it's not the common name surely more than 0.1% of people looking for the musician will use his birth name. * Pppery *it has begun...00:48, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In response to the two opposes, I will once again reiterate that, page views notwithstanding, a professional name should be a target for an article over what is essentially an answer to a trivia question. Because of this, I'm still of the belief that this should be moved. I will also state that I don't believe this should be closed at the 7-day mark just yet, since 1 support vs 2 opposes does not seem like firmly established consensus. I also want to ask that this be relisted at least once, and see where that leads. But that's just how I see this. JeffSpaceman (talk) 01:39, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
