Dallas Morning News video

[edit]

The Dallas Morning News made a video about the movie, but I am not sure if the video is still accessible. Work done on Plot by numerous wikipedians is very good but needs to be trimmed further

[edit]

I believe Wikipedia standards establish somewhere between 400 and 700? I've left it in 710 but I'm sure it can be trimmed further. AnyDosMilVint (talk) 12:59, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

AnyDosMilVint, I take it that you are not new to editing Wikipedia.
Regarding my revert, I reverted back to this version, which reverted more than one editor (not just you) and took away 118 characters. You then restored to 118 characters, stating that the plot summary was too long and that it "missed some important bits." And you then cut it by 353 characters. If anything, your edit may have cut something important. For example, I'm not sure if the life insurance aspect should be mentioned. It's been a long time since I've watched this film. As for the range given by the WP:Film plot guideline, it clearly states "unless the film's structure is unconventional [...] or unless the plot is too complicated to summarize in this range." It also states, "Discuss with other editors to determine if a summary cannot be contained within the proper range." WP:Film editors have consistently been clear that we do not have to be strict with this guideline. It's a guideline. Not a policy. Many Wikipedia film plot summaries go a little over the 700 range without any issues. We don't trim out important content. What to retain or cut from this article's plot section has been discussed times before, but it may be that all your edits are for the best. If you can get the section to 700 or under without cutting important detail, feel free. That shouldn't be difficult since the section likely has a word or two it doesn't need. If I object to anything else you cut, I'll note so on the talk page. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 15:10, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I am actually new to Wiki (which I assume accounts for my multiple edits instead of one); I tentatively tried other film plots and they had this 700 word rule in them in their, which is why I thought it would be universal. The life insurance bit I assumed could be seen as embedded in the generic statement "her murder, whose motive she made seem to be money-related", same as the gambling thing she says in passing in her flashback/confession to the audience. I also felt the need to write the primary motivation for going back to Missouri (namely his mother's cancer) but that added even more bulk to the text so I didn't, ditto for the fact that Nick is out on bond when Amy comes back to him. These things can be seen in the plot for the novel, but if anyone wants to add them to the film plot to make it more comprehensive and the 700-word rule is not set on stone, that's perfectly fine by me. I think I've contributed enough to this article for now. AnyDosMilVint (talk) 18:40, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"Fashion" Section

[edit]

Does this article really need a section on, "fashion"? It's not as if this film is known especially for its costume design.

This feels to me as if superfluous and inappropriate.

This movie should also be listed as a comedy

[edit]

Psychological thriller it may be, but I also believe this movie has too many blatant comedic elements to not include that it is also, at the very least, a black comedy. Agrudle (talk) 03:14, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The plot clearly is ridiculous but I didn't laugh once Talk to SageGreenRider 00:25, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
