Just a small question: is this person the same one mentioned in Chesterton's Heretics (specifically in the chapter "Paganism and Mr. Lowes Dickinson")? If this is so, then shouldn't this fact be mentioned on the page? HurriSbezu 23:18, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Changed "stub" status to "start" status

[edit]

In the biography infobox at the top of this discussion page, I removed the "stub" status and made it "start" status. For a further discussion of that and what this article could still use, click on "comments" in that box or follow this link: Talk:Goldsworthy Lowes Dickinson/Comments. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Noroton (talkcontribs) 17:40, 28 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I recently uploaded File:Anthony Asquith; Sylvester Govett Gates; Goldsworthy Lowes Dickinson; Charles Percy Sanger by Lady Ottoline Morrell.jpg. Dickinson is seated second from the right in this image. It's not the best image of him, but it might be better than nothing. Dcoetzee 03:29, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Knitting Circle reference

[edit]

I took out The Knitting Circle reference that was used heavily here. It had several issues. First, it was a dead link that's been marked dead since 2009. Second, it was not a reliable source (it's a wiki). Finally, some of the text here appears to have been copied nearly directly from there with only some rewording. See the archive page from Internet Archive. Maybe it was reworded enough to not violate WP:COPYVIO, but still kinda questionable to me. Anyway...Just taking that out. It needs better citations for some of the material, then, because so much of the article would not have inline citations. Plus, the cite tag had a strange external link in it to a Google scholar search which is not appropriate. Will see what I can do to improve it, but someone who knows more about this subject might want to improve the article better. Thank you. -- JoannaSerah (talk) 02:10, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

==What this article could use==

These comments refer to this article as of February 28, 2007:

I've changed the bio infobox rating from stub to "start" class. In the past couple of days numereous additions have been made to this article, taking it from a stub to about 16 paragraphs. A lot of information about his career has been added, along with a much longer list of his books. Almost all of the information has been taken from the "Knitting Club" Web page on Dickinson, meaning the sourcing is too narrow. Some suggestions for future improvements:

  1. Replace the Knitting Club sourcing with more direct sourcing to Dickinson's own autobiographical writing and E.M. Forster's biography.
  2. Add some mention of his romantic life, although not as much as the Knitting Club (apparently a gay history Web site). The subject is worth more notice than it's been given so far, but not as much as that site gives it. Possibly the information should be put in piecemeal, chronologically in the paragraphs about his life; alternatively in a paragraph or two in its own section.
  3. His relationship with E.M. Forster (as mentor, friend, as someone Forster looked up to and was influenced by) should be added, and some mention made of it in the top section.
  4. Dickinson was a man of ideas, but there are next to none in this article so far. That's the most glaring deficiency.
  5. Some description of each of his books would be nice.
  6. Maybe a good picture of Dickinson will become available. For copyright reasons, Wikipedia can't use Roger Fry's portrait at the British National Portrait Gallery, which looks like the best thing out there.

==Another suggestion==

Someone familiar with Cambridge's "Tripos" should see whether or not the wording in the paragraphs about Dickinson's college years is awkward (I tried my best, but I'm not familiar with the subject). If reworded, the section should still be absolutely clear to readers who are completely unfamiliar with Tripos. I find a lot of British writing incomprehensible when this subject comes up — too often it assumes the reader knows all about it. Noroton 17:55, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
