It would be nice to know:

  • who owned the theatre?
  • what's on the site now (I don't think it's the pizza hut, but either the BHS or that boxy building beside Cineworld)? A photo might be nice, if there's any hint of theatre left there.
  • whether it was open during WW2
  • why it closed

But in general it's a good article, and a welcome addition to Wikipedia's glasgow coverage. 87.112.22.255 (talk) 17:56, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I have been asking for someone to write this article for years! I have checked on the map and it's now Empire House, which seems to be some sort of modern designed shopping parade with tenements above and 31 is The Body Shop and 35 is Dino's Restaurant. No hint of a theatre, sadly.DavidFarmbrough (talk) 05:41, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Someone has already updated the article with Empire House, but didn't have the other details. However they DID say that Empire House had offices above, rather than tenements, so I revise my earlier comment. DavidFarmbrough (talk) 05:45, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dame Shirley Bassey

[edit]

The article tells us that Dame Shirley Bassey was at first mistaken for a striptease artist when she first walked on. I've had a look but can find no sources for it and to be honest I don't have enough time on the computer to make a good enough search. Anyone help? Thanks. Eek, I've never heard of that British Dame. GoodDay (talk) 12:06, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The best I can find for ya: At YouTube - check BBC Prime Shirley Bassey, I am what I am Part 1/5, where at the 4:04-4:05 time, she says she's a "stripper at heart". GoodDay (talk) 12:13, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that GoodDay. I have asked at the entertainment ref desk so hopefully someone could help out. Carson101 (talk) 13:26, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
After asking around it appears that there is no source to back this particular story up so have removed the sentence. Carson101 (talk) 14:58, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
