Why Gérard?

I do not understand why his forename has been given in the title as Gérard rather than Girard. It is given as Girard in all the mathematical literature I have seen, in Britannica and even in French Wikipedia - presumably they DO know the correct name of their own countrymen? The title should be given Desargues' proper forename! Sasha (talk) 22:41, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
