[edit]As I read Oxford Music Online there are apparently two different early 17th century composers by name Giovanni Picchi, cf. articles by Howard Ferguson (dates: fl. 1600-1625) and Denis Arnold (dates: fl. early 17th century, d. Venice 1643). According to the articles both Piccis lived in Venice, so maybe they're actually the same composer. If there actually were 2 different Piccis, then the birth- and death years in the Wikipedia article are not correct. The compositions listed in the Wikipedia article are those mentioned in the article by Howard Ferguson.--Reccmo (talk) 14:10, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- Those are the same composer. I don't have access to my library at the moment but I'm close to 100% sure I took the biographical details from Selfridge-Field, who found his death record (thereby inferring the birth date). There's no contradiction with the Ferguson article, since he only gives fl. dates, avoiding birth/death altogether. I'll look into it when I get home.
