Nickname

[edit]

"The Razor"? Is that a joke? I'm a season ticket-holder and I've never heard it called that in my life. Xinoph 05:36, September 8, 2005 (UTC)

It's not as common as most nicknames for parks, but it is used by Sports Illustrated.Gateman1997 19:12, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Seriously? never? im pretty sure its used by our local press too.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jfg284 (talkcontribs) 22:15, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I live in Foxboro and have NEVER heard it being called that by anyone who goes there or lives in town. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.22.134.45 (talk) 21:06, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Most people in Rhode Island jokingly refer to it as "Call Me Gillette instead" (CMGI) Counterfit 01:58, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Any evidence to back this up?Gateman1997 03:30, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have seen a few news casts mostly WHDH refer to it as the razor, i have never heard the average fan refer to it as the razor they just call it gillette (Mikedlif 13:47, 12 January 2007 (UTC))[reply]

I'm putting a "citation needed" in for this - if anyone has any evidence feel free to link it 129.170.31.233 21:10, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

maybe i am not getting something, but what is the logo on the field? Obviously not the Pats or NFL logos, but the weird shaped thing with line shooting out of the top. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.168.31.106 (talkcontribs) 13:09, 4 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

It's the logo for Gillette Stadium. Do you notice the lighthouse in the logo?--TheNation 03:37, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The logo is illustrating what can be seen outside the far endzone on the picture on the page. By the way, sign your comments please 71.99.83.251 22:26, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There's no way this is a volcano(!) I buy lighthouse. Or calipers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vsevolod4 (talkcontribs) 22:46, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Picture

[edit]

As the stadium is most commonly known as the home of the New England Patriots, could someone find a usable picture featuring a football game instead of a soccer one. I mean seriously, the field is empty in the current one Black Harry (T|C) 01:32, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The picture is satisfactory....and the stadium is full 66.30.130.133 19:08, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think there should be a football picture too, using a soccer picture is better than not having one at all. All of the NFL stadium pages I've seen have at least a picture if not multiple.--Tsurettejr 21:48, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tower?

[edit]

Can anyone add comment on why there is a tower, what the tower is and/or the significance of the tower? The article references the tower in the field logo, but not why there's a tower in the first place. It's fairly unique as far as stadiums go, so I think a mention would at least be appropriate. TheHYPO (talk) 22:43, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's a lighthouse -- symbolic of New England. Pats1 T/C 22:59, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Capacity

[edit]

I recall the official capacity of the stadium as being in the neighborhood of 72,000 based on the certificate of occupancy posted at the security tent —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.237.176.172 (talk) 18:19, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Architect?

[edit]

The article says John Bolles designed the stadium and various web searches come up with the same thing. With such a high profile building you would think there would be stuff about the architect all over the net but I can't anything other than a John Bolles who died in 1983 and designed many landmark buildings in California including Candlestick Park. Are there any more details on this issue? Americasroof (talk) 23:10, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could have been his company (or his son?) but it should be investigated. Pats1 T/C 23:23, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It look some tricky searching since so many sites mention Bolles. But I suspected it was HOK (like pratically every other stadium). Bolles did the ligthouse. Still, it's interesting I can't find more on him because that's a pretty good credit.Americasroof (talk) 00:33, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I removed Bolles name altogether. I can't find any reliable source that says he did the entrance. The sources merely parrot what's already out there and the name is bandied about a lot. That entrance would have at least got him some mention in the Boston Globe and there's none. The HOK entry that somebody else added seems to take credit for it. Americasroof (talk) 15:18, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In looking at the edit history Bolles name popped up in this 2005 edit when the infobox was added. I suspect that the editor was using the Candlestick Park infobox as a template and forgot to delete the name. Once the name was on the article and went for so long unchallenged it got picked up by other sources.Americasroof (talk) 16:27, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ooops, my bad... 4 years ago. Gateman1997 (talk) 17:31, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, thanks! Seeing that you were still active I thought about asking you. It's easy to forget stuff from that long ago. Thanks for staying active in all this time! Americasroof (talk) 19:24, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Grass

[edit]

do the New England Revolution play on turf? does Gillette management roll out grass? 72.227.169.203 (talk) 15:58, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think they used to do it only for FIFA games, but they installed a new version of FieldTurf this spring that is supposed to meet FIFA standards. Pats1 T/C 21:19, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added how the old benches sucked, and barely fit the fans in the stands. ddebiasi/ddebiasi — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ddebiasi (talkcontribs) 14:55, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

7th best stadium in NFL?

[edit]

Yahoo Sports has a feature ranking the stadium as the 7th best in the NFL.

Taylor Swift?

[edit]

What significance is it that Taylor Swift's new concert tour played at this stadium? Does this fact really merit mention in a paragraph that is clearly about the opening of the building in 2002? Right after the Rolling Stones? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.178.108.112 (talk) 15:46, 1 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Warren McGuirk Alumni Stadium

[edit]
Additionally, several nonconference teams would not even consider playing games in Amherst.

I'm sorry if this seems like splitting hairs, but the Warren P. McGuirk Alumni Stadium is not in Amherst, MA. The main campus of the University of Massachusetts is, but their football stadium is actually located in the adjacent town of Hadley, MA just west of Amherst. This also makes "... the Minutemen's on-campus stadium," a bit misleading; I'd suggest, "...the stadium for the UMass Minutemen's Amherst campus," or something like that.

Soccer capacity

[edit]

Anyone know why the MLS Soccer Capacity is 20,000? Cls14 (talk) 12:42, 11 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It's possible they don't open the upper levels of the stadium during MLS games. I believe the A's did something similar recently. Calidum 20:59, 11 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That does make sense. Does that really mean the stadium capacity is 20,000 though? I am sure they'd just open more tiers if they needed it. Might ask the question on a MLS Project page or something :-) Cls14 (talk) 12:07, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Photo

[edit]

We really need a new photo on the page for the stadium. With Patriot Place, the stadium looks nothing like it does in the current photo from 2007, and will look even less like it once the current renovations are done. Because the photo has to be public domain or granted permission, I'm not sure where to find one to replace this one. Someone else perhaps? CPAScott (talk) 18:32, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Seconding this, the renovations are complete and the images on the page are now quite dated. MattFry7 (talk) 05:43, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is one event missing here: Tom Brady's Patriots Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

[edit]

This article forgot to mention that Tom Brady's Patriots Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony was held at this stadium on June 12, 2024. Abhiramakella (talk) 18:22, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
