Volcanic eruption in Sumatra
[edit]To what extent is the current eruption of Mount Sinabung liable to influence these developments? The article does not provide breakdowns of power production in the different areas of Indonesia but there currently seem to be plans for new geothermal plants in the north of Sumatra. Any data on this? - Ipigott (talk) 18:21, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- The four sites mentioned in the article are all in West Java, and add up to 732 MW, representing 60% of the country's total 1,200 MW. There is a small 12MW plant at Sibayak nearby Mount Sinabung. --Elekhh (talk) 21:15, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- The lead does in fact also mention North Sumatra (and North Sulawesi). There has been quite a bit of news recently about developing geothermal power in northern Sumatra. See, for example, the Business Week article here. They are specifically talking about a 200-MW project in the north of the island. Business Week also refers to plans for a 220-MW development in southern Sumatra. Don't you think these details could usefully be included in your WP article? The intended plants are both bigger than the 127-MW development you mention in Java?
- There is also an older (and perhaps less reliable) article from the Jakarta Globe referring to Pertamina geothermal developments in both Sumatra and Sulawesi. There are some more recent details of Pertamina activities here which may also be of interest.
- You've made a really good start on the article. Hope this helps. - Ipigott (talk) 07:56, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
