GSP as Author

Hello, I was wondering why there is no mention of GSP's book on his page. His new book, The Way of the Fight, came out April 23rd 2013. I feel there should be a section on his page about it, he has even embarked on a media tour to promote the book, appearing on the Joe Rogan Podcast for example. WhoseTheDoctor (talk) 05:38, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Champion

The page should be fleshed out a bit, with some new media perhaps, given Georges' new title as UFC Welterweight Champion.

Best Champion Ever

He's is going to be great. Anyway, I better add some input in here. Here is the post fight conference at youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5INiEY_FT8w&eurl= Questions were asked, and he is going to fight Serra in February, which is most likely UFC 67, since UFC 66 is Dec. 30th. Not sure if this is the one that is going to be in Montreal, Canada, but it's likely. Hughes probably won't get a rematch for quite a while, plus there is no rematch title clause, as stated from that post fight conference video. --68.102.37.191 09:31, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Why

Isn't Kyokushin being credited as one of his main fighting styles? According to http://www.gspmma.tv/gsp/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5&Itemid=29 His Kyokushin trainer is TBA

Also Muay Thai isn't listed as one of his fighting styles. Kickboxing is, but that is not Muay Thai. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.54.97.65 (talk) 06:02, 24 December 2006 (UTC).

Yeah, GSP trains at Muay Thai at the Wat in NYC under Kru Phil Nurse (former Euro champion.) Should this be mentioned? He goes to the Wat and Renzo Gracie's during his visits to NYC. - Justin

It should be mentioned that GSP trains at the WAT. I have met GSP at the WAT, and I must say that he is quite the nice guy. Unless you knew who he was, you would never know that he was a celebrity by his demeanor: humble, unassuming, great story teller.

Yep! I agree 110%. I recently injured my knee and he was actually giving me advice on what to do about it for almost 20 mins. Really nice guy. - Justin

Why does someone keep editing out the mentioning of the Wat? He trains there just as much as at Renzo's and he has said some nice things about it. He described it as "the best" he's seen in America too. - Justin

Anyone got pictures?

Does anyone have any free pictures of GSP at UFC 65? Shawnc 07:15, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Try UFC.com dude there is a whole gallery. Sherdog.com may have some pics do but UFC does for sure. As they do of all the PPVs from the past few years...as well as UFNs too.--Donnie from the mean streets of Boston, KY 00:57, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

I can point you in the direct of the Death Valley Driver Video Review message board I know a few dudes there went to the show and no doubt took pictures. But other than that, i'm sorry dude can't help ya. It doesn't matter anyway, when Hughes gets his rematch and gets his head out of his ass and decides to wrestle instead of kickbox he will take his belt back anyways :P. Koscheck fight

The Koscheck fight had the comment attached to it which stated that the fight was for the interim title. It was not. I changed this a while ago but it was reverted. Nobody currently holds an interim title in the WW division, thats for UFC 79 to decide. If this gets reverted back, please provide a source which states that this fight was an interim title fight. Harley peters (talk) 02:37, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

You're reading that statement wrong (though I admit it was poorly worded). It wasn't saying the Koscheck fight itself was for the interim title. It was saying that, originally, the win made GSP the number one contender and he would fight the winner of Serra/Hughes for the welterweight title. Instead, Serra's injury forced that to be changed to him fighting for the interim title at UFC 79, not the official welterweight title. Of course, that's not REALLY correct either, because he didn't get the fight simply due to Serra's injury and the win over Koscheck. Matt, Dana, and GSP all agreed on the fight anyway, then Matt requested that it be for the interim title so it would go five rounds. Because the original statement was poorly worded (and not necessarily factually correct), I've clarified it to be more accurate. Tuckdogg (talk) 05:13, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Vaseline

I have changed

A controversy arose during the fight when St-Pierre's cornermen were spotted rubbing St-Pierre down with Vaseline.

to

A controversy arose during the fight when St-Pierre's cornermen were spotted rubbing St-Pierre's back immediately after applying Vaseline to his face. (Cornerman are allowed to apply vaseline to a fighter's face to prevent cuts, but not to lubricate his body.)

The facts are that St. Pierre's cornerman rubbed his face with vaseline and then immediately rubbed his back, as could be seen on the Pay-per-view. It has been alleged (by BJ Penn's team and others) that this was an attempt to transfer vaseline to St. Pierre's back. However, St. Pierre's team has denied they were "rubbing St. Pierre down with Vaseline", so I've tried to rephrase it in a NPOV way. I also felt it was necessary to clarify that using vaseline for cut prevention is not illegal, but using it for lubrication is. Otherwise, a reader might mistakenly think that the mere fact that they had vaseline in his corner was evidence of wrongdoing. -- Tim314 (talk) 17:16, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Removed as unsourced. There was no "controversy" only an attempt by BJ Penn to make an excuse for his loss. The atheletic commission refused to act on this, thus there was no controversy. If we can get a legitimate source where people other than BJ Penn make the same claim, then perhaps it should be reinstated. All fighters faces are rubbed with vaseline. There is no evidence of vaseline on his body. If you have evidence, please share and source it. Lattefever (talk) 14:25, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Lattefever

Belts

Remove the belts in the sidebar. No other MMA fighters have it and I do not understand why GSP should. Belts are not an objective ranking system and should not be portrayed as such. 99.129.166.11 (talk) 23:20, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Uh, WTF? It's not "portrayed as an objective ranking system", it's simply stating the facts that he has them. If you don't want to give them any weight that's up to you. --aktsu (t / c) 02:45, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
I think the Martial Arts credentials of MMA fighters should be encouraged. They worked hard to master their disciplines. Their belt ranks are noted by the commentators at events so it doesn't hurt to make note of them on Wikipedia. AncientObserver (talk) 11:46, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
This isn't a MMA ranking site, if a fighter holds a rank in a martial art then it is highly relent to an encyclopaedia article on them. --Nate1481 13:28, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
I agree. All pertinent information should be mentioned in an Encyclopedia. AncientObserver (talk) 18:47, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Belt color is not an objective credential system and does not belong next to universally accepted measurements like height, weight, and record. I don't mind mention of them in the article but they don't belong in the sidebar with a colored box next to them. Again, no other MMA fighter has them and I don't see why GSP does.64.161.56.211 (talk) 01:52, 1 July 2009 (UTC)have

You think listing the record is OK, but not his belts? The record doesn't tell you any more about the quality of the fighter (it depends on the competition) than what the belts do, and in most cases I would say the belts give a far better base for comparison, so I'm not sure I understand that argument. Why does everything in the infobox have to be "universally accepted measurements" anyway? The reason most other articles doesn't have them is because they're using an older version of the infobox. --aktsu (t / c) 18:24, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Religion

Since there is no text in the article sating GSP's faith, I'm remmoving the categories he's been placed in. You can re-add them when there is a source for his faith. --Kevlar (talkcontribs) 02:30, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Styles

Under the styles category it no longer includes boxing. Why?

GSP trains boxing at Grant boxing. If you would like to verifiable proof you can watch UFC primetime Episode 1 at the 16 min and 58 second mark it clear states Grant boxing gym and then shows GSP training boxing there.

Here is a link for proof... http://www.heavy.com/video/ufc-111-primetime-episode-1-gsp-vs-hardy-78235

PS- It also shows him training Muay Thai with Jru Phil Nurse at the 15min 24 second mark, and Renzo Gracie at Renzo academy at the 13min and 40 second mark. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tonycpa2004 (talkcontribs) 14:09, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Random lines on his record

We need to get rid of the 2 lines that separate random parts on his record. The first one is between his 4 win Thomas Denny and his 5 win Pete Spratt and the second one is between his 11 win Sean Sherk and 12 win B.J. Penn. The one that separates the next fight is fine since the fight hasnt happened yet and it kind of helps to understand that. (GSP-Rush (talk) 08:49, 17 May 2010 (UTC))

Incorrect Title Belt Information.

After each successful defense of the Welterweight Title, G.S.P. is given an entirely new belt to add to his collection of UFC Welterweight Title Belts. So, for example, after beating Nick Diaz, G.S.P. should now have eight Welterweight Championship Belts. Under the photo of the Title Belt, it says something along the lines of "This is the belt G.S.P. has defended." I think this is a little misleading, seeing as how every time he defends his title, he is actually given a new belt to add to his collection. I heard this information from either Dana White or Joe Rogan and just wanted to mention this here in case anyone wanted to fix this... let me know what you think. It looks like the discrepancy is that we don't count the Serra match as a title defence. He won an interim title against Hughes and the undisputed title against Serra. That leave eight defences of his title afterward. —C.Fred (talk) 22:23, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Perhaps an asterisk and a note since most sites list the Hughes fight as a title fight. If a contender wins an interim belt and the Champion does not return that individual becomes the Champion so in all further bouts that person is defending his belt. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:304:B251:8299:C9B2:6F20:1DBF:AA63 (talk) 16:42, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Georges St-Pierre's weight

The Wikipedia page claims that he weighed 195 lbs. and that's off course incorrect since he was a Welterweight fighter where the weight limit is 170 lbs. His real weight was according to Sherdog exactly 170 lbs.

Error in "Ultimate Fighting Championship" Section

He tapped out to Matt Hughes with 1 second remaining, not 10 seconds as stated in the article. The reference is correct so I assume this was a typo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.103.184.76 (talk) 19:45, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Black belt in Gaidojutsu

Hello, I'm not sure how to edit the references list so I can't add in a link that confirms that GSP has a black belt in Gaidojutsu where it currently says "citation needed." Here's the link and it says GSP has a black belt in Gaidojutsu in the fourth to last paragraph: http://www.mmaweekly.com/jacksons-introduces-an-mma-belt-ranking-system — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pokerplayer513 (talkcontribs) 23:26, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi Pokerplayer513, I have added the reference/citation from your source given (MMAWeekly) above into the Infobox. Have a look. Thank you for providing the information and your contribution. Appreciate it.CASSIOPEIA (talk) 09:11, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

Adding "Weight Class Fought in" column to each mma fighters "Mixed Martial Arts Record" Table.

We are seeing increasing movement of fighters between weight classes (i.e. George St. Pierre, Connor McGregor, Randy Couture, BJ Penn, etc) and so I propose that a new column be added to the "Mixed Martial Arts Record" Table to show which weight class each fight was fought in. This is sometimes mentioned in the notes section, but not always. Subsequently, an amendment to the "Professional Record Breaakdown" table to include wins and losses at each weight class the fighter has fought in.

Res. Record Opponent Method Event Date Weight Class Round Time Location Notes
Win 26-2 Michael Bisping Technical Submission (rear-naked choke) UFC 217 November 4, 2017 Middleweight Round 3 4:23 New York City, New York, United States Middleweight debut. Won the UFC Middleweight Championship. Performance of the Night.
Win 25-2 Johny hendricks Decision (split)) UFC 167 November 16, 2013 Welterweight Round 5 5:00 Las Vegas, Nevada, United States Defended the UFC Welterweight Championship. Fight of the Night. Later vacated title.

Influence

Was GSP's father Roland into martial arts before GSP? I heard he is a karate black belt, no? --KpoT (talk) 19:53, 19 November 2017 (UTC)

Change "is a Canadian mixed martial artist of French descent" to "is a French Canadian mixed martial artist" Saying of French descent suggests he has parents or close ancestry from France. However this is not the case, he is simply French Canadian. Thank you. Canuck613 (talk) 21:58, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Not the Middleweight champion anymore

George St. Pierre vacated the title, Robert Whittaker is the current Middleweight undisputed champion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.81.141.146 (talk) 06:21, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
