[edit]Evidently not a great deal of discussion on this chap, but I place the reference to Thomas Paine here. This is a largely overlooked fact. Most sources say it was Oliver Goldsmith, based on an old bio of Goldsmith, but that source was uncited and unsubstantiated. In this letter, we have the story in Paine's own words.
